Not Steam, but does anyone else remember the music artist that got pissed at scalpers and just kept selling tickets and adding shows at a venue until the scalpers gave up?
I mean, ok I guess.
But have you considered how much better a world could be created by making scalping a capital offense?

Just don't buy it till the lottery ends, not like you need it this second.
The lottery is just for the first wave of shipments. After that, it's a reservation queue. It also requires an account that's been active for some period of time, and has made purchases (to try to cut down on scalper accounts).
Is there a source for that? I am on the list but haven't made many purchases
Eligibility: You must be a legal resident of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, any EU Member State, or Australia, at least 18 years old, and the registered account holder of an unlimited Steam account who has made one purchase prior to April 27, 2026.
https://help.steampowered.com/en/faqs/view/0AC8-A264-CC02-14F0
If selected, you will be notified via email using the email address associated with your qualifying Steam account on or about September 17, 2026 that you have been added to the reservation queue. As units become available, people in the reservation queue will receive an email with the option to purchase. We'll send the first batch of those starting Friday, September 18, 2026. Those emails will include a link for purchasing the Product (“Link”). The Link will expire 72 hours after it is sent by Valve. If you do not buy the Product by the expiration date, your opportunity will also expire. If you are not selected, you will receive an email letting you know that you’ve been added to the waitlist and we'll let you know when more units become available.
FYI read the small print: they'll remove entries with the same address, so if you live with other people don't all join the queue or you'll silently disqualify yourselves.
Just put one of your vacation homes! Duuuuuh

I'm so fucking glad I didn't update my address after moving recently so my wife and I don't have the same address.
I'm asking every friend that doesn't want one to line for me. I still think the demand will outpace supply so much it won't even matter.
How do you do that, I don't see an address anywhere on my account. Is it if you have added a payment method to the account?
The one for the payment method and shipping (steam link, deck and controllers over there years)
So if I've never purchased a physical item then presumably they'll apply the filter on purchase attempt too. If you try to place an order for a frame and another one was placed with the same shipping address then they'll probably reject it.
Not sure were you're going with this, this address will receive at most one, so wheter they do that or not won't affect me.
I was mostly asking for myself. I used to live with someone who is also joining the queue and trying to figure out if there's anything I need to do if I want to avoid a false positive for the "one household" test. It sounds like there is nothing I need to do. I asked you originally since you had an address to update while I didn't.
Sorry, I was a bit defensive. I misunderstood your intention.
I don't know how they will do with the addresses, but maybe there are post offices or such were you could collect it?
Good luck tomorrow :)
No problem, it wasnt super clear. Both of us live at different addresses now so it shoudn't be a problem at the purchasing end, but I might do the post office thing so it's not just sitting outside for anyone to take while I'm at work.
Good luck to you too
That's me too and I'm not even a scalper. :(
I feel like they should have at least required a deposit so people don't sing up when they don't really plan to buy it.
With extremely limited supply anyone that doesn't get Frame now, will probably have to pay an even higher price whenever stock is back...

I remember when tech used to depreciate in price with age.
Yeah, I signed up for a slot, but I had a thought that I'd just wait and get it cheaper later. Then I realized that's not really how things work anymore somehow, and I could probably buy now and resell it higher later, even used, because none of this makes any sense.
This is, of course, assuming the current status quo continues. With the recent "AI needs to be restrained" comments from AI execs, it might crash soon and things go back to being sane.
They have 72 hours to actually go through with the purchase and then steam offers it to next person. Seems like fake reservations might slow things down a bit but not really remove supply
No worries, scalpers can still get their way on the Asian region website. There's no lottery. They released it this morning, and within the hour, all units were sold. I think there was a limit of how many per head you could get, but still, no biggie for scalpers. I managed out of sheer luck to get mine, but definitely a lottery might have been better.
Oof, ok. Whelp, at least you got one :)
Obsession 2025... you know... for science
