So Australia will be the season opener again, right?
New idea, no sprint at Monaco. Make it a Lap Attack. All the drivers get to go around by themselves and fastest lap time wins.
No no, I'm not advocating for three qualifying sessions - it's a lap attack!
Could be a fun idea ngl, you'd get amazing push laps like that one Jeddah qualy lap Max crashed in sector 3. Every driver essentially playing trackmania with F1 cars lol
I just want FIA to do something sensible. "Sprint at Monaco" sounds like a troll-level shitpost. Hell after watching Max 1 vs 100 I'd take a Monaco Go-Kart special race. Anything but a damn sprint.
Honestly, I get and kinda like the concept of sprint weekends as an occasional shakeup to the regular format, but the way its currently done is absolutely not it. Its a mini grand Prix without the excitement, however if they can figure out an alternative format that keeps it exciting and make it worth for the drivers, I think they can find great success in that.
If there was something else spicing up the sprint, it could be worthwhile to watch. Having tires with very high degradation could be an idea, pit stops aren't obligatory but for sure you'd want one

I thought my loathing for that circuit would be forever unrivaled until last weekend. Madring is even worse, somehow.
Bet they are doing that for the extra Quali sessions, probably quali viewership is higher than race day viewership.
@SkunkWorkz @Nighed How about this? Quali first, sprint - reverse grid start, then the main race.
This messes up parc ferme going into the GP, but if they have to keep these sprints, I agree with your approach.
So with a reverse grid from qualifying, how do you get drivers to push their hardest in qualifying?
If you can solve that, then Monaco might actually be interesting to watch (if the GP race is reverse grid).
Maybe the sprint is effectively qualifying for the GP; the finishing order from the sprint is reversed for the GP race?
Since points are awarded for the sprint, there's incentive to finish in the top 8, even if that means you start farther back in the GP.
@Neverbeaten My thinking is: There are a lot less points in the sprint, teams will still push for best position in the GP. But with the fastest in the back, it will make for more passing and action for the sprint, since the strategy of pit stops is not there.
Maybe I can clarify, perhaps I wasn't clear enough:
-Saturday GP Qualifying
-Saturday Sprint - using above qualifying, but reversed
-Sunday Grand Prix - qualifying as standard positions as usual
I'd prefer just scrapping the race and having Monaco being a pure time trial event, personally.
I need a start watching some new sport. Even MotoGP is getting enshittified.
GT World Challenge is free on YouTube. I haven't watched this season though. But it's usually good.
No clashes with indy 500 and Le mans which is good. Unlike the Monaco sprint race...
