Big respects for Pussy Riot. Didn't know that things were this bad in Russia, but then again, I haven't heard music from them so knew something was up.

[-] Witchfire@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

I'm so grateful I got to see them live (in a venue that served perogies nonetheless). They were literally sent to Siberia. Russia is absolutely fucked for queer people. It's what the US wishes

[-] LittleBorat3@lemmy.world 8 points 5 hours ago

Oh man the Russian state and this band: In any other country pussy riot would not have been seen as especially subversive. They would not have made it to the news and no one would know them.

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 53 points 18 hours ago

The FSB is one of the most despicable intelligence organizations on this planet, on par with Mossad and the CIA.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

I wonder from which of the dark triad you mentioned downvoted your comment. Lemmy has been infiltrated by well funded bad faith actors.

[-] drmoose@lemmy.world 4 points 4 hours ago

A lot of ruzi sympathizers especially on the .ml instance.

[-] Wildmimic@anarchist.nexus 12 points 12 hours ago

As I have often commented, I am very sure that the FSB has some accounts here on Lemmy, mostly concentrated on the .ml instances. The downvotes you see are are probably from them.

[-] SkyezOpen@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

The amount of ml accounts I've tagged "Russia shill" is... Well probably not shocking to you, but the number is high.

[-] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 4 points 4 hours ago

I can never decide if they're paid or just really, really stupid to shill for the fascists parasitizing their bae's corpse.

[-] ProfThadBach@lemmy.world 103 points 22 hours ago

fuck. They threatened to kill her mother. What the fuck.

[-] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 68 points 21 hours ago

Standard practice for the FSB, and I would be very surprised if Mossad and CIA amongst others didn't do similar things.

[-] anarchy79@lemmy.world 18 points 11 hours ago

Classic. "If you don't do as I say I will hurt you."

"Fuck you!"

"Ok. I will hurt your mother..."

It's dark and ancient.

[-] realitaetsverlust@piefed.zip 28 points 21 hours ago

Every secret service on this planet do these kind of things.

[-] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 6 points 21 hours ago

I sometimes doubt ours are competent enough, but they'll probably try

[-] anarchy79@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 11 hours ago)

lol

May I interest you in the history of the CIA?

[-] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Whatever you think of their competence, I'm quite confident they have resorted to threatening family members on multiple occasions.

[-] chaogomu@lemmy.world 11 points 18 hours ago

From everything I've read of the CIA, incompetent is downplaying it.

They're monsters, that cannot be said enough. But incompetent monsters.

Their modus operandi mostly seems to be using proxies and cutouts. The CIA would never threaten your family. Instead they hand out guns to the people who already hate you and your family, and then sort of just hope for the best.

They also do abductions to black sites, but mostly they seem to be the logistics service of evil giving out money, guns, and drugs to, well, often literal Nazis.

[-] CrimeIsLegalNow@ani.social 1 points 2 hours ago

It's very important to understand that no one anywhere knows what the fuck they're doing the moment a problem is anything more than engineering.

[-] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 3 points 4 hours ago

I never said the CIA is incompetent. Please don't assume I'm in any way related to the US.

[-] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 13 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

The CIA is a masterclass in spying and recruiting, primarily as a result of practically unlimited funding. They utilize all the novel gadgets you hear about — shit like lasers bouncing off windows to record audio, or reconstructing video from a cameras electromagnetic radiation, or using WiFi to target individuals within a room, or …

But it goes a lot further. They will open entire business fronts in foreign states and maintain them for the sake of fronting. They will send spy’s into other nations to assume a role as a local and casually collect information. They will survey people like janitors, assistants, … for anything of leverage… kid sick with cancer? They’ll pay for treatment at the best hospitals in the world to recruit you, if they believe you can get valuable information.

They’ll go through entire rounds of interviews designed to profile you behaviorally. Their hiring practices have been claimed to actually weed in people with sociopathic tendencies — people with a sort of main character complex who can adequately justify doing bad things because “we’re the good guys” and for “national security.”

The shit they’ve gotten away with is bonkers. Files are constantly being released over the years, we have glimpses into their operations, yet we do nothing to instigate meaningful change. It’s bonkers. You know they were testing hypothetical truth serum on customers in American coffee shops?

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 0 points 17 hours ago

Pretty cool how this turned from the FSB to the CIA in two whole comments.

Effective operation.

[-] trxxruraxvr@lemmy.world 0 points 4 hours ago* (last edited 4 hours ago)

I was just pointing out that these practices should not be surprising anyone. CIA and Mossad are the most well known intelligence agencies in the world, what others should I have named that people would recognize?

[-] anarchy79@lemmy.world 0 points 11 hours ago

As long as Guantanamo is open I think Americans shouldn't pipe up so much.

[-] Jax@sh.itjust.works 8 points 8 hours ago

Oh you think the FSB is bad? Well so is the CIA.

Fucking stupid how many upvotes these comments are getting

[-] Serinus@lemmy.world 3 points 11 hours ago

You're right. The original article is completely excusable because, as you say, everyone does it.

Well made point you have there.

culture can have a profound effect on society.

[-] Kirp123@lemmy.world 11 points 14 hours ago

Culture is full of ways to resist and subvert authority. Writing and music can inspire, motivate and mobilize people in huge numbers. Even graffiti and street art can just spread ideas with minimal effort. It can raise money and fund resistance.

It's why a lot of authoritarian governments try so hard to stamp on culture. They know it's power and they fear it.

[-] TankovayaDiviziya@lemmy.world 10 points 17 hours ago

Arts and education are the first to be suppressed by authoritarians because it stop these natural outlet to voice dissent.

[-] yakko@feddit.uk 9 points 20 hours ago

Culture needs to be doing more. Where's my fucking sketchbook...

[-] postscarce@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 20 hours ago

They need to make a TV series based on Pussy Riot.

[-] anarchy79@lemmy.world 6 points 11 hours ago

Just a film will do.
