Probably for the best.
Honestly, anything he would have made would have been better than the dumpster fire that was the sequel trilogy.
Somehow, Jar Jar Binks survived.....
"Meesa back!"
I hate you for making me hear that in proper Jar Jar voice in my head
Yeah, the films have really dropped off in quality, but I love the TV series and did enjoy the recent Mandalorian film. It didn't try to stray outside of its lane as a localized Star Wars story and a summer blockbuster.
Yeah honestly they just need to drop the idea of Canon try something if it doesn't work out drop what didn't work and try again. Not everything based on a universe needs to be connected.
Maybe, but what's leaked from the story treatments did not inspire a ton of confidence. I guess it might have been more thought-provoking?
Am I the only one on planet earth that sort of enjoys the prequel movies?
You turn off your brain and ignore all the plot holes and silliness and cheesiness, just like any other Star Wars content, including the first movies.
It's not that serious lol. It's not made to be that serious.
seems like this story changes every few years. back in the 90s it was "yeah I got 6 more" and then it was "no I don't have anything post Jedi" and then he says he does, and then he doesn't, or then the sequels are about Leia and then they're not.
People don't remember their own history very well. Back then, he may have certainly had ideas floating around for more movies, but never considered them "real ideas"
Over time those thoughts turned into real story plots in his head, and it's perfectly reasonable for him to remember them as being more fully thought out then they were.
I think you're being a little generous here. He is all over the place over the years, and kind of just doesn't care. Whatever was the last version of it that flitted through his head was what he'd claim he always intended. Our friend George is also very much NOT a proponent of the death of the author.
He had a bible he gave to Abrams, which was quickly tossed. Then Abrams boasted on his bible, even posting pictures of the old and new cast in a (supposedly) 3-pic story meeting; and then it turned out Abrams' bible didn't even exist (exposed by the reaction to Rian Johnson's turn).
The sequels were more fun than the prequels, but they were stupid.
Gotta remind people the Mandalorian and Grogu is streaming on Disney+, subscribers click here for a discount on Disney store merchandise brought to you by Lucasfilm Toy Co.
I mean I would have had deep concerns, but there's no way it would have been worse than what we actually got.
He had Indiana Jones LITERALLY ride off into the sunset at the end of the third movie. The most over the top cliche thing for a hero to do. And he dragged him back to make another one about aliens. >:(
George couldn't write a good "fall from grace " story for Anakin cuz he was living his own.
That was Spielberg not George.
Not OP but while Spielberg directed Last Crusade, the film was written by Jeffrey Boam, George Lucas, and Menno Meyjes. Lucas clearly had a strong influence beyond just the writing as well, judging by things like the R2D2 hidden in the hieroglyphics in the first movie and the Club Obi Wan in the second.
He's always been a bad director, others make up his slack. He's a good idea and business man.
I would happily trade everything Disney Star Wars in exchange for another Lucas trilogy.
I think Lucas really excelled when he was pushing against the limits of technology and budget and those limits really held him or n a sweet spot for story telling he would naturally push himself out of.
Anything he makes now would be like the prequels.
He excelled when he wasn't surrounded by Yes Men
OT is still the only thing worth watching imo. The rest is just gobblty gook.
I agree but with the only exception being Rogue One. That one is pretty solid.
People look at the OT with such rose-colored glasses. There's so much of it that isn't great.
Andor/R1 is the only post OT that matters.
Eh, even Return of the Jedi had strong signs of where he wanted to lead things. Toys, toys, toys.
Yeah, but I think it holds up better than the others. A New Hope has some let's say.. moments.. that don't hold up. But like, I'll rewatch RoTG and it's still fun.
Idk. If no new movies had been made, the OT would at least be in my top ten, top five even(?) for fun science fantasy.
But the perpetual rehash makes it unable to get into my top 50. Maybe not even top 100. The more crap they produce the less I like it.

I'm bummed we never got Darth Darth Binks.
We know? This has been known since the 80's? Hello?
And then we got knife map!!
