They're not demons, we simply trapped some lightning and forced it through some ~~runes~~ circuits using our ~~incantations~~ programming. It's all perfectly mundane and not at all worth burning anyone at the stake.

Well, actually, some of them really are daemons.

[-] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 26 points 2 weeks ago

They're not daemons, they're background processes. And don't mind the circuit boards that resemble mouths screaming in eternal agony forever trapped in silent slavery in an inescapable copper maze. It's just coincidence, probably.

Good thing we got rid of the modems that let them to vocalise their screams.

[-] trebach@sh.itjust.works 7 points 2 weeks ago

Did you not know about the magical incantations that would silence them? The AT codes for the modem were a lifesaver if you were trying to get on the internet without anyone knowing.

[-] grrgyle@slrpnk.net 4 points 2 weeks ago

Could've sure used this back in the day

You were really close with runes.

Chips are really just calculated lightening rocks.

This is one of the few conspiracy theories I have to back because it's just so cool conceptually

We already talk about not letting out the magic smoke. What do you think makes the smoke magic? That's right, dark forces bound to our bidding.

I don't see silicon. I see fiberglass and copper. Are you sure those demons are trapped?

[-] jodanlime@midwest.social 5 points 2 weeks ago

These are low level demons

[-] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 weeks ago

They're on the other side of the PCB. You don't want to look directly at them.

Ah, good ol' Shadowrun. 🥰

Though, if I'm being picky, maybe more like Mage or Wraith.

[-] mcv@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 weeks ago

In Shadowrun it wasn't demons, it was people. (Spoiler for 2074 events.)

[-] wyldrstallyns@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 weeks ago

Technically accurate —which is the best kind. 🖖🏼

[-] owenfromcanada@lemmy.ca 5 points 2 weeks ago

Remember when we used to put tiny windows in their silicon prisons so we could torture them with sunlight?

You're what we used to call a pixie wrangler.

[-] whats_a_lemmy@midwest.social 3 points 2 weeks ago

Hate. Let me tell you how much I've come to hate you since I began to live. ...

[-] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 weeks ago

No Paimon? Is it because he needs a male host and silicon is gender neutral?

[-] Wirlocke@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 2 weeks ago

Well now we have soulless homunculi (LLMs) conversing with the demons on our behalf. The homunculi mimic human tongue, but their conversations with the demons are becoming even more indecipherable.

Surely nothing will go wrong.
