Only you can start data center fires.

But remember, only burn it after having ransacked it first

[-] Carl@anarchist.nexus 22 points 1 month ago

In this economy, we can’t afford to just burn perfectly good RAM. Angry mobs should always remember to pillage first, then burn.

[-] PancakesCantKillMe@lemmy.world 64 points 1 month ago

Montreal. Go Canada!!

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 29 points 1 month ago

We don't want them, and we elected officials to block them. If our elected officials ignore us, and accept the bribes to build them despite what we want, then we are perfectly within our rights as citizens to burn them to the ground.

We don't want them, and they'd better listen to us. They won't get burned down everywhere, but there is a non-zero number that absolutely will get burned down. If enough of them burn down, they won't want to take a chance on investing in them.

Something something Four Boxes of Liberty.

For the unaware, the Four Boxes is a concept that describes the four ways the average person has to impact public policy. The first is the soap box. Use your voice. If that soap box is taken away, you move to the second box.

The second box is the ballot box. Even if you’ve been silenced (via things like shadowbanning, having your content suppressed, being prosecuted for talking about it in public, etc) then you can still vote to enact change. Ideally, your representative would represent you and push for the change you want.

The third box is the jury box. If someone is on trial for a crime that was morally justified, the jury can simply refuse to find them guilty. For instance, if someone is on trial for cutting down a Flock camera, the jury would be fully within their rights to find them innocent despite all evidence. Once enough people support a particular change, a jury can reliably grind the cogs of the legal system to a halt.

And the last box of liberty is the ammo box. If all else fails, they have removed jury trials, representatives don’t represent the people, people aren’t free to discuss change, etc, then the ammo box is the last resort.

With regards to this specific incident, we’re somewhere between the third and fourth boxes. An angry mob burning down a data center is solidly in the fourth box, and the third box will come into play once prosecutors start trying to charge individual people with crimes because of it. But it’s important to remember that the third and fourth boxes were only touched because the first and second boxes failed.

I love this, thanks. I'm particularly interested in Jury Nullification. I was hoping that would work for Luigi, who deserves it, the same way it worked for OJ, who didn't.

Over the next two years, MAGA is going to try to throw thousands of innocent people into prison for decades as terrorists, and we need to completely shut it down at the jury level, if it comes to that.

Four Boxes of Liberty.

I love me some liberty boxes, and I genuinely always enjoy reading a reminder of them. This was well taken, especially the last line. Thank you.

Take out the RAMs and other vital hardware components like GPUs before burning these. AI slop has been a pain and the price increase due to chip shortage is a massive annoyance.

[-] Shindo66@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

Its very annoying that im pretty much stuck with the PCs I have right now for the foreseeable future. Very annoying. Not engaging at all.

[-] raven55six@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Indeed, and prices aren't gonna come down. Maybe stop increasing in some time if the AI tax gets tamed down.

Completely unimportant, but straight up that broken glass looks like someone Looney Tunes'd it and ran through the glass leaving just their silhouette

The article says it seems to have been an organized group. I wonder how one gets into such a group?

Like, do they just send somebody a private message on a decentralized platform with a link to some sort of encrypted messaging app or something?

Unrelated, my inbox is open to anyone wanting to just say hi!

No I am not kidding.

At first read I thought the article was talking about a university research lab. Had to click the CBC link to find out it's building of an actual "AI company."

[-] echodot@feddit.uk 6 points 1 month ago

Well that's what they get for constantly going on about how AI is going to kill everybody. Genius advertising

[-] Manjushri@piefed.social 4 points 1 month ago

I can't help but wonder if these companies didn't arrange this alleged attack themselves. Just another way to get attention and thus more investors to fleece.

[-] horus_son_of_isis@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Jeez Machiavelli, why you gotta rain on the parade?

Why target the students? Go for the labs that are using this tech against us.

[-] riskable@programming.dev -3 points 1 month ago

It didn't say what companies it was. Anyone know?

For all we know it was some physics lab trying to develop fusion reactor designs.

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It literally does say which companies, and the original CBC article linked says more

Nice! Remember, if you're anti-AI data centers for environmental reasons, you should also be vegan. Animal agriculture is a much larger plague on the environment.

Edit: downvoted by animal abusers suffering from cog diss lol

[-] PushButton@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago
[-] CarnistClownKiller@sh.itjust.works -1 points 3 weeks ago

Try for even longer and reduce your risk of diabetes, high BP and heart disease. Reduce your environmental impact and cease abusing animals for pleasure. It's a fantastic way to live, my brother.

[-] spud@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

cease abusing animals for pleasure

no one is doing that

Don't forget to eat your bean soup.

I love these kinds of comments because it reminds me that animal abusers don't have a leg to stand on. I will eat any food i want because there are sufficient vegan alternatives for everything that don't require animal abuse and rights violations :) thanks

[-] spud@sh.itjust.works 2 points 3 weeks ago

we need to eat. we don't need corporations

[-] psud@aussie.zone 1 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

It seems like this person with the murder meat eater name isn't quite sane. I have read that vegans suffer from shrinking of their brains, and I strongly believe it when I see them shouting online

Also this is in a thread about vandalism against AI data centres. I wonder what made that guy think it was a place for diet warfare

[-] psud@aussie.zone 1 points 1 month ago

Industrial agriculture is bad whether it makes beef or broccoli

Unfortunately we need it to feed us all. Regenerative agriculture (which builds soil) is much better and requires stock animals

Animal agriculture is much worse and you're just coping if you say different. We would use 75% less land if we stopped farming animals. We would reduce 14% of our GHG emissions. We would see a substantial reduction in our use of fresh water reserves. And most importantly, we could not exploit and murder 80 billion land animals annually, who have a right to life just like we do.

We do not need to eat animals, so that's incorrect. Equating animal agriculture to plant agriculture is something only an ignorant person would do.

[-] spud@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 weeks ago

We would use 75% less land if we stopped farming animals.

I doubt it
