A naturally aspirated 3.0-litre V8 would have reached noise levels that would cause a major problem with some of the current F1 venues. The issue concerns street circuits in particular: Melbourne, Miami, Madrid, Singapore, Baku and Las Vegas are venues where noise-emission restrictions are in place, and the arrival of cars significantly louder than the current generation could create major difficulties that would be impossible to overcome and potentially even put some events at risk.

Oh what a shame.

Interested in learning what other regulations are going to be in place to keep the power output of that turbo V8 down to a reasonable level (~1000hp).

It’s probably the same stuff we have now, like fuel flow and boost pressure. Unless they lose their minds and allow insane power, these are likely to be very low stress engines by f1 standards. So probably shouldn’t expect 18,000rpm screamers like the old v8’s.

Think I would have preferred a 2.0 V8 if it must be turbo. The teams trying to squeeze blood from stone makes it more interesting from an engineering perspective. But this will probably really close the gap in engine performance between manufacturers, for better or for worse.

Holy balls, 3 litre v8 turbo. And a mgu-k. 1200 bhp?
