They have always made them in china. Just added a small leather part in Italy and call it made in Italy.
This is not true. There have been subcontractors in Italy, and these contractors have been employing illegal Chinese migrants as we know.

Im only surprised it didnt happen earlier. Lower overheads=more profit. Not like the prices are going down anytime soon.
Italian fashion brands have been becoming under heavy pressure over probes by Italian authorities because of labour abuse and exploitation of Chinese migrant workers at subcontractors’ workshops on Italian soil, where the brands produced some of their products. It's supposedly easier to produce in China, where labour laws are much weaker and workers' rights are de-facto non-existent.
This effects not only Gucci but more or less all Italian brands.

It is insane to me that someone can buy a $2000 purse made from $50 of raw materials with AT MOST 16h of labour and instead of paying an Italian $350 and make $1500 from ONE PURSE they instead want to pay a Chinese worker $100 and make $1850 from the purse.
Like it's such a small increase in the actual profit margin it's insane to me that they wouldn't want real artisans making legitimate works of art "worth" $2000 instead of just paying the cheapest labour possible and making what amounts to knockoff quality "brand name" purses.
Dumb people with too much money buying the ugliest garbage they can find and call it fashion.
If i had known people would buy ugly crap as long as it's priced high i would have become a designer.
