Making the springey-thingeys with the feed strips.

Good times.

Mmmmmmmmmmm. I worked in an asphalt lab and I can hear that printer going. Now I can even smell the bitumen in the air.

I can hear that smaller image.

Getting a clean tear off the perforated ribbons was so satisfying.

You should print 28 boxes of 3-part forms on a dot matrix printer. Then decollate the bottom page and trim the right edge off of all of them.

You will certainly not regret printing/decollating/trimming 28 boxes of 3-part forms every month for ten years.

Just think of all the fun stuff you can do with the paper ribbons you tear off! That absolutely makes up for any and all pain and suffering endured in the process!

Meh. Wake me up when you get a daisy wheel printer. Actually, never mind, the printer will wake me up.

Nah, what you need is one of these.

The printer is for the sound, this is for smell

[-] LocalAreaMan@lemmy.world 9 points 17 hours ago

They sound cool. That's all you need to know.

[-] sundray@lemmus.org 5 points 18 hours ago

I print so rarely I feel like the ink would dry out and I wouldn't notice until it was too late.

Perfect usecase for dot matrix printers then. I print max once a year, good to know I have something that works

[-] TrackenDaKracken@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

For carbon copy paper, of course. Inkjets don't work for that.

For reliability, of course. I can always whip out my OKI, whenever the other printers has issues. 100% of the time it works every time.

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 10 points 19 hours ago

I used to work in tech support in the 90s. No, dot matrix printers do not have some magical reliability aura. Despite almost all our printers being dot matrix, printer issues still accounted for ~60% of the trouble tickets.

You would press print and it would just print

For a while I was a certified Oki printer service technician.
Those things were fun to repair!

[-] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 3 points 16 hours ago

They were NOT fun to remove wayward labels from.
