Damn, I guess they just said the food dyes

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 17 points 11 hours ago

Wait…. The FDA still exists??

[-] Professorozone@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

My first thought exactly.

Gatorade’s got what plants crave!

[-] Ganbat@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 12 hours ago

Another recall, but at least this one is only because they forgot to tell us it's yellow.

[-] stoly@lemmy.world 2 points 6 hours ago

Yellow that makes you sick.

You mean drinking the Bleenurple Gatorade flavor might be dangerous?

But I’m thirsty!

[-] orclev@lemmy.world 15 points 17 hours ago

Not really unless you have a particular sensitivity to the specific food colorings used. Compared to recent recalls this is pretty minor as it's essentially just a mistake on the label rather than any kind of contaminate. I.E. had the labels correctly included the yellow food coloring used this would be perfectly fine to sell and there would be no recall.

Red is a carcinogen I think

[-] orclev@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

The old one was, but not the current one.

[-] traxex@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 5 hours ago

I learned today that Red 40 is made from crude oil.

[-] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 3 points 8 hours ago

Because crabs are red?

[-] ignirtoq@feddit.online 4 points 13 hours ago

bear lot dates between April 2027, May 2027 and June 2027

What exactly is a "lot date" here and why are they 6-8 months in the future?

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 3 points 10 hours ago

That’s how far ahead of time that stuff is bottled. It’s not like it goes bad in a couple of weeks, it’s water + chemicals.

The date is usually printed somewhere in the bottle.

I assume the recipe doesn’t change much. How often do they need to declare the ingredients? I don’t understand how this happened in the first place.

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 6 points 15 hours ago

Uh... every time? Each and every packaged item on the shelf is supposed to have an accurate list of its ingredients.

[-] magnetosphere@fedia.io 1 points 10 hours ago

lol I overthought the issue. I thought they had to “declare” the ingredients to some agency or something. Your answer makes too much sense, so I looked right past it. Well, thanks!

[-] fonix232@fedia.io 7 points 17 hours ago

Technically, every time the recipe changes, it would need to be inspected and double checked by the FDA (at least that's how it works in the EU).

[-] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 4 points 17 hours ago

Probably switched the type of dye. Idk Leatherface at the DHS has been screaming about dyes so maybe he fucked it up again.

[-] tmyakal@infosec.pub 4 points 15 hours ago

I hadn't drank Gatorade in probably two decades, and last week I saw a sale, shrugged, and said, "Sure, I'll try that again." Shit timing on my part, I guess.

[-] EpeeGnome@feddit.online 5 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

Looks like you only need to worry about it if you need to know which artificial yellow food dye is in it. Looks like they swapped dyes but failed to update the ingredient list on several batches. I'm not dismissing this as harmless though, people with a Yellow number 5 allergy could have been seriously harmed.
