California governor critcizes president for ‘putting a target on two of our biggest cities and one of America’s largest naval hubs’

California to ‘actively monitor’ possible threats after Trump said Iran could ‘take out’ LA and San Diego Hello and welcome to the US politics live blog. Donald Trump was accused of “dangerous, if not treasonous” behaviour after his comments suggesting he could “let [Iran] take out” Los Angeles or San Diego. They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them ta...

They can take out a city. Let them take out Los Angeles. Let them take out San Diego.

Holy fuck. The President just condoned a terrorist attack on an entire city, one of the largest cities in America. Because he doesn't like their politics. Just when you thought he couldn't go any lower...

Just when you thought he couldn't go any lower...

That's not really a thing for me

[-] Zachariah@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

his new lows should never surprise anyone

[-] FullPenguin@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago

This isn't just a Trump low, all of his actions sit squarely on the shoulders of every single Republican.

Every time Republicans refuse to do anything, they're endorsing his behavior.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 22 hours ago

Can you imagine the shock Trump would get if he suddenly woke up in a sane and rational world and the police immediately arrest him

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 7 points 2 days ago

They're okay with it. He's just saying what they've been afraid to say out loud.

They can prove otherwise, as you said. But they won't.

[-] Zachariah@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

new lows of conservatives should never surprise anyone

[-] kent_eh@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

all of his actions sit squarely on the shoulders of every single Republican.

Imagine being a republican trying to get elected in California after this ...

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

I'm fairly certain the "I could shoot someone on 5th Ave" comment was foreshadowing at this point.

And towards the end, I foresee a blatant and publicly announced wholesale of the US to the highest bidder.

[-] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 2 points 22 hours ago

Trump once starred in a special where he literally put a price on america

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 2 points 2 days ago

He raped children. It doesn’t get lower than this.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

I mean condoning the bombing of a city with 13M Americans just because some of them don't like him seems much worse than that, but maybe that's just me.

[-] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 2 days ago

I think LA alone has a higher gdp than a lot of nations

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 days ago

A lot of states actually, California is in the top ten.

[-] Auli@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

I mean they have already said the left war trators. Everyone needs to stop thinking what they say isn't true.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

I don't think "left war traitors" comes anywhere close to "I hope they bomb an entire fucking city full of millions of our own people because some of them don't like me"

[-] sh00g@lemmy.zip 27 points 2 days ago

Now wait a minute, did we all collectively decide to forget the most impeachable offense of any recent presidency? Remember when President Obama wore a tan suit? A TAN SUIT???

[-] nickiwest@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

Or that time he asked for spicy mustard on his burger?

[-] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Fuck Newsom.

But yeah, Trump has been a traitor all along.

California lives rent free in so many MAGAts brains, and the rage comes down to one of two scenarios. One, never been to California (or visited a long, long time ago) and just assumes it's a Mad Max-esque wasteland except with more Gay Communism TM. Two, adores California and won't fucking leave, see Vance and the fact he's always lurking around So Cal because his wife is from northern San Diego county. The irony is the further you get from the coast the redder and more MAGA California becomes, and boy does it get weird and extreme at times (OC's 'Orange Curtain' being one exception re: coastal blue cities). Something tells me California MAGAts are fine with daddy Trump making these comments. The boots don't lick themselves.

[-] DeepThought42@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

Definitely treasonous, but it's not like he's not been treasonous before. :|

[-] StabbingSky@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 days ago

It would be quicker to list the times he wasn't treasonous.

[-] ElChinchilla@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

July 1987 boarding the plane to Moscow was probably the last time he wasn't a Muppet.

(I say Muppet intentionally because he has putin shoulder deep in his ass.)

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

And the crowd cheered. That's the most fucked up part of this.

The drama queens on the right always talk about "TDS", but seeing their California Derangement Syndrome is really a thing. Especially when they pretend to be the "real patriots" : there are nearly 40 million Americans that live in California. More than 1 in 10 Americans live in California. That the right wing have this stupid blind hatred for.

And an awful lot of their television, shows, games, and tech comes out of California. Hell, the taxes from Californians probably props up a lot of the assholes with California Derangement Syndrome...

[-] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 10 points 2 days ago

It's MAGA, Treason is assumed. So is Pedophilia.

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 3 points 2 days ago

And yet…..

[-] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

But I thought he was president for all Americans. Any insights?

[-] Rhaedas@fedia.io 6 points 2 days ago

Trump? He's President for himself. Immunity is addictive.

[-] Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 5 points 2 days ago

And nothing will be done about it

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

I've said this in the past but I really do think that if a civil war, balkanization, or federal weakening were to happen it'll start here in California. Not necessarily because we are all that willing to do things but moreso because we are probably one of the more nationalistic states and Republicans would see us all butchered, all it'd take is the right pressure and the Californian nationalism will turn into burning federal field offices and mass graves.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

The main challenge is that California is full to the brim with federal military bases.

[-] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 2 points 1 day ago

You say that as if there aren't Californians and other Blue Staters within and around those bases. Just because those facilities are Federal, doesn't mean everybody is suddenly mindcontrolled into doing Trump's bidding.

[-] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

That could be a problem for them as well, its not inconceivable that said bases could end up being surrounded and isolated or otherwise dealing with defection. Regardless it'd be a complete shit show, but I suspect theyd face some level of issue from mixed loyalty, breakdown of morale, or people going AWOL outright.

[-] Not_mikey@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

@onpolitics.news@lemmy.world I think the links broken, it leads to a feed on trumps visit to texas for some reason

[-] some_designer_dude@lemmy.world 0 points 2 days ago

Wonder what it’ll take for Americans to march on the White House. Apparently offering up two major cities as freebies for the nation’s enemies as target practice isn’t gonna do it.

[-] modus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago

March on the White House? He's constantly expanding the secure perimeter. Most recently he's announced he will be fencing off Lafayette Square. You can barely see the place from the street anymore.

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Do you live in America?

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago

The White House is 3,000 miles away from where I live. That's not really feasible.
