I sit like this and have no pain... I also climb 3 times a week, which, accoiding to my informal survey, helps inmensly with back pain.

I take offense at that. My chair doesn't look that comfortable. It also sounds like a Nazgûl when I sit on it.

Those cameras we planted all over your home are finally starting to lead to some content inspiration 🥳

Standing desks actually need to go right down so you can kneel, sit cross legged or lie at the keyboard.

[-] drath@lemmy.world 10 points 9 hours ago

tbf, almost every single chair out there is wildly un-ergonomic. Whoever came up with all that 90 degree "perfect posture" bullshit must be exhumed, revived and then executed again. Just get yourself a laptop and work from bed if you can, otherwise, get a recliner that can go back at least 45°, find your comfortable angle, then plan the rest of the setup around that.

Wat.

This is how you get chronic heart burn

I once had someone at a party tell me “I can tell you’re in IT because of how you sit.” I didn’t think I was sitting weird.

[-] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 28 points 10 hours ago

Not weird at all hehe

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 7 points 9 hours ago

dude I had a random teammate tell me once in a video game that I sounded like I had a stand-up desk

[-] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 3 points 8 hours ago

yes, but I wasn't using it at the time. I was gaming at my Ikea kitchen table desk, with my standup work desk right next to me

[-] HalfSalesman@lemmy.world 9 points 10 hours ago

My back has rarely hurt through my life. Only recently after working as a kitchen aid in my second job have I started feeling any at all.

Now my knees are a different story. I've had bad knees since I was 12.

[-] Glitch@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 9 hours ago

I worked in a kitchen with a subtly sloped floor, so water goes towards the drains. I'm convinced that messed me up

[-] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 9 hours ago

Physically and possibly also mentally.

I'm basing this on nearly nothing, but I honestly think hanging around on slopes for too long without skiing, snowboarding, or cycling messes with your mind..

You don't have to call me out like that

[-] badcommandorfilename@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

I feel attacked

[-] sigezayaq@startrek.website 8 points 11 hours ago

I sit like this and have no back pain, but I also exercise regularly

[-] 14th_cylon@lemmy.zip 4 points 7 hours ago

come back in 10 years and tell us how it goes.

[-] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 33 points 14 hours ago

I sit like the second picture to keep my back from hurting. Remember kids, just because you CAN lift that person that weighs more than you you SHOULDN'T lift that person

[-] Karjalan@lemmy.world 5 points 9 hours ago

First picture gang checking in. Especially as a 2 metre tall person, I don't fit anywhere, gotta get creative

[-] pipe01@programming.dev 5 points 9 hours ago

Yeah that's how I fucked up my knee lol

Also, consent is good.

[-] lost_faith@lemmy.ca 24 points 14 hours ago

Oh I had consent from all involved except my back lol

Yeah turns out core strength is important, who knew

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago

That's exactly what my physical therapist just told me

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 3 points 10 hours ago

My back hurt at 16

[-] DarkCloud@lemmy.world 5 points 13 hours ago

I was as per the right most panel when reading this.

[-] kubica@fedia.io 5 points 14 hours ago

If you usually wear belts and you have back pain maybe you could start from that. Better the annoyance of your pants not staying in place than the back pain.

[-] mnemonicmonkeys@sh.itjust.works 19 points 13 hours ago

Please elaborate

[-] Sabata11792@ani.social 8 points 12 hours ago

Bold of you to assume I have pants on when writing code.

[-] Axolotl_cpp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 9 points 10 hours ago

Yeah, skirts are way better :3

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 9 points 13 hours ago

Instructions unclear, am pantsless and my back still hurts.

[-] kubica@fedia.io 3 points 12 hours ago

That's certainly worse. But to be more clear what I meant is that tight belts are more of a problem than they might seem.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 6 points 11 hours ago

Do tight belts cause back pain? I’ve never heard that. Also I’ve had some back issues over the years, and no doctor or therapist has ever told me that.

Mainly they tell me to exercise, and give you special exercises to do. Those help.

[-] kubica@fedia.io 3 points 7 hours ago

I was just talking from experience at first. But for example searching I find various articles similar to this one

Increased abdominal pressure can lead to stiffness in the spine and added stress on the back. Tight belts can exacerbate this pressure, resulting in nerve compression, particularly affecting the femoral cutaneous nerve. This compression can cause not only back pain but also abdominal pain and discomfort, affecting digestive health. Evidence suggests that consistently wearing a tight belt can significantly heighten the risk of chronic back pain by disrupting spinal stability and altering abdominal muscle function. Visible signs, such as red marks on the skin after removing a belt, may indicate its tightness and potential for harm. https://wisehealthtips.com/can-lower-back-discomfort-be-caused-by-belts.html

Or this

Lower back and spinal pain Research has linked increased pressure in the abdomen with stiffness in the spine and extra stress on your back. So that extra ergonomic help you had from the office chair isn’t doing much if your belt still sits extra tight on your waist. The back pain is a terrible result of nerve compression which takes place when pressure is applied. https://www.askdrmanny.com/could-your-belt-lead-to-back-pain
