ICE official, who was sleeping on man’s lawn and appeared ‘intoxicated’, faces felony charges, California police say

A 72-year-old man shot an off-duty Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) official in California early on Friday morning after the “intoxicated and agitated” official assaulted him and his daughter on their property, local authorities allege.

The Fresno police department said that the ICE official was receiving medical care after being shot in the midsection. The official, identified as David Gonzalez, is facing felony charges for assaulting the father-daughter duo, Fresno police said.

It was not immediately clear for how Gonzalez had been with ICE and what exactly he did for ICE. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), which oversees ICE, referred all questions about Gonzalez to Fresno police.

If it was in the West Bank , he would got shot instantly, his whole family and neighbors would be killed and their homes destroyed

Pity his aim wasn't better.

A shocking percentage of American gun owners put little effort into learning basic marksmanship.

[-] gwl@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 5 hours ago

Not that shocking tbh.

Many own a fun just to protect themselves from others that own guns

I absolutely love the comments here. On cucked Reddit this would have been locked and nearly all comments deleted. I got permabanned there a couple days ago for going off on Russia and their stupid plague situation. Of course, I had previous bans, one of which was for wishing these Chinese kids, that killed those beloved village dogs a while ago, the absolute worst mob justice imaginable.

Anyway, fuck ICE, keep firing at the bastards.

Are you looking to see someone firing this at the ICE bastards while watching them drop by the hundreds and their vehicles blow up?

And THAT is what your vaunted second amendment is for.

[-] Furbag@pawb.social 13 points 10 hours ago

It took a remarkably long time for one of these assholes to get shot at.

[-] Tiral@lemmy.world 4 points 8 hours ago

Yeah, honestly I'm surprised with how many gun happy people there are and tend to be anti authority to some degree. I feel like they wouldn't put up with a lot. Which in this case I'd high five them lol.

[-] frongt@lemmy.zip 4 points 6 hours ago

That's why they've been targeting demographics with low gun ownership. They're well aware of that possibility.

"Gonzales" is a hell of a last name for a hired ethnic cleanser in California.

Shout out to you for calling this “anti-immigrant campaign” what it is. I think the phrase Ethnic Cleansing needs to be permanently attached to ICE and the Trump Administration, and I wonder how many decades it’ll be before the media uses it.

[-] amgine@lemmy.world 23 points 14 hours ago

There’s likely a lot. In Texas here you see a ton of trucks with the punisher/blue line/trump wig stickers on their trucks with Hispanic men driving them. Completely disconnected from reality

[-] GolfFoxtrotLima@sh.itjust.works 2 points 11 hours ago

This unfortunately, too real

[-] blackshirt@lemmy.world 24 points 16 hours ago

I wounder how the police would have handled this if the homeowner name was Gonazels and the ICE agent name was William Baker.

There are more of us than them at any given time. It's not illegal to kill your local ICE agents. Make them fear waking up in the morning.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 11 hours ago

I think you mixed up “illegal” and “immoral”.

[-] PhoenixDog@lemmy.world 0 points 10 hours ago* (last edited 9 hours ago)

No I didn't. Can't be charged with a crime when there's no one left to report it.

Make Homeland Security start naming their "officers" after they're dead. Spoiler alert, they won't because the majority of them are J6ers, formerly dismissed cops, or convicted felons. No way Homeland will admit to hiring the absolute worst people for upholding immigration enforcement.

[-] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 hours ago

They admit it all the time. They’re proud of it. It’s how fascists brag about the power they’ve amassed.

[-] LemmyFeed@lemmy.dbzer0.com 105 points 1 day ago

Shortly thereafter, the daughter’s boyfriend, an off-duty police officer, arrived and placed handcuffs on Gonzalez.

I guess luckily they had a police officer in the family? I can't help but feel like things would have gone quite differently if they didn't have relations with the local police force.

[-] ipkpjersi@lemmy.ml 45 points 1 day ago

100% it would have gone differently if they didn't have a police officer in the family lol

Faces felony charges, but the federal department he works for passed questions to the local authorities.

They dumped him on someone else to avoid accountability. Nice. Sounds like a Trump organization.

This is best case scenario. Local investigation and charges. Otherwise the feds will block access to to evidence and just say everything was done according to the books

[-] nilloc@discuss.tchncs.de 30 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

The agents last name is Gonzalez. The feds will immediately disown him or throw him under the bus.

It should be legal to shoot ice agents, on duty or off, particularly if they, as usual, are masked and not following police procedures. And if the man was afraid for his life, as he definitely should have been if an ice agent was involved, the precedent set by multiple high profile recent cases in other states is that it was legal. I hope that jury finds the same.

[-] Cocodapuf@lemmy.world 22 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Honestly, since ICE agents don't provide any kind of id when asked, we shouldn't refer to them as ICE agents, because that's really unconfirmed. It would be more appropriate to say "masked man dressed as ICE agent", because we can't actually know that they're an official rather than a criminal in a costume. And obviously, the correct and rational response to being assaulted or harassed by someone in a mask is to treat them like a criminal, and defend yourself appropriately.
