This is awesome. I was able to recycle my wheel iPod way back 00s with Linux when an os update failed and bricked my device. Nice to see someone doing this.
Almost zero info, but they do sell a €150 stick with an AI slop unicorn on it. Sounds very fishy to me.
TBH, we're going to see a lot of this shit. Documented exploits, documented hardware, documented OS, The current gen of AI tooling is pretty good at retrying tons of shit until it gets SOMETHING working. What runs will probably not be performant, and since no one wrote it or understands it, they won't have any clue how to make it run better and that's something that the current tooling is NOT good at.
Could people review what the AI shits out and clean it up?
To an extent. Perf is often as much about architecture as it is about code. That guy who created Adobe alternatives- all those apps are dog slow; they have to do low-quality preview renders. That's something Adobe probably spent a few lifetimes siphoning out every last watt of power from, and it's the reason they didn't want to move to Linux. The app is still serviceable, but it has to degrade active quality to work at a reasonable pace. To fix that in Rust is going to be an enormous ask. There needs to be hackery and jiggery-pokery, the kind of things that aren't documented well in training.
Maybe he can go back and have it try to figure out what Adobe is going or brainstorm ways to do it at full quality. Maybe someone will have to dive into the code, get familiar with it (hoping it's not too confusing), and either fix the architecture, fuck with the security to let it use more base system calls, or maybe just tell another Claude session how to make it more performant.
Of course.
Seems a decent use for it then, just having it brute force corpo nonsense. Kind of a "let them fight" situation.
That's pretty dope but also the writing makes my clanker senses tingle.
Literal nonissue to use ai for sht like this and the decompiling of games to make mods people have been doing, it could all potentially run locally, its not replacing any jobs and its tedious sht ppl wouldnt do otherwise unless they were insane, like game crackers
Is Voices38 using AI on Denuvo? I hope so for their own sanity but also hoping more than 1 guy starts doing it so Irdeto's legal department gets swamped chasing ghosts.
Excellent. I want a not Android and not iOS.
Can I interest you in a Windows phone?
Stupid monkey's paw
Was actually good
I had one and you are incorrect
I miss my Windows phone. Just wish it had more app support
The hardware was good for the time, and the UI/UX was a solid concept. However, it came way late to the party.
and the UI/UX was a solid concept
I couldn't hate anything more than I hated the Windows phone UI. It constantly felt like everything was constantly cut off, or like I was looking at my phone through a keyhole.
Then on the other end windows 8 it felt like there was too much empty space, bad on small and large displays.
This 10,000 times. I thought the phone UI was novel and useful at the time but that never translated to the desktop or even a touch screen.
I had one and enjoyed it.
That’s impressive. A full Linux system on Apple devices would go crazy.
We talking interconnected systems operating on Apple devices? Like the LinuxOS for {Pad,I,Mac,Watch}OS that would be really awesome. I would go back to an apple phone
Impressive!!
Congratulations!! We want moorreee! Power to the people.

I'm curious if they are able (or have any intentions) to access the gsm modem to send/receive phone calls.
Historically, on android, this was a vendor specific binary blob, which really limited what you could do with it "as a phone".

This could be good news for then environment. Apple’s planned obsolescence means their phones are essentially life-long e-waste but with an initial few years of enrichment for some.
The devices are still destined to be ewaste, but the more years we can get out of them is still slightly better.
Not just Apple, I know.
Aren't apple like the least bad guys here with their phones? My wife is still using an almost 7 year old iPhone without any issues at all. It's still fully functional and snappy to use, still using all the original parts (never needed repair)
That’s comparing tech with other tech, rather than comparing it with environmental impact. I think we need to decenter tech and focus on the environment as a matter of urgency.
My iPhone is six years old. But these devices will spend centuries in land fill. Apple’s recycling program is criticised for destroying phones that could have been repaired.
There is a long list of things not being done to extend the life of these devices, and the way they are repurposed later in life. All to the benefit of selling more devices.
That's one step closer to running Linux on the Macbook Neos A18 Pro.
