Putin must be desperate to be so obvious with his power over the US government.

Yeah, that lines up, the new Kremlin shills are also way more obvious than they used to be.

Combine it with the measly $500m purchase of Russian diesel, more valuable targets in Russia getting hit. Putin is seeing walls close in, and the oligarchs he has to keep happy... won't be.

Prigozhin was just too early.

The data center, specifically, may be a blow to his hybrid attacks on influencing the US election and the public discourse, increasing risk to expectations around maintaining his influence come Jan. If he feels Republicans will lose, he'll consume his existing influence before it's gone rather than keeping his secrets. If he fears his own demise, what long-term investments would he even want to develop in the US political system?

Ah, thats a good point. An animal caught in a trap has no use for the limb if it's dead. Gnawing it off gives him a chance to at least keep fighting for survival, even if that chance still leads to him bleeding out.

Exactly. The more obvious and open the relationship, the less effort is put into hiding it. Inversely though, if he is very, very confident of a win, he can exploit his full influence now rather than waste resources hiding it for another month. Idk, I'm just some rando.

Rules:

  1. No sympathy with the enemy or its collaborators. Russian and North Korean soldiers are fascists committing a genocide. Remember that.

  2. Objective and factual reporting from the battlefield, parliaments, etc. is encouraged, even if it's about bad news for Ukraine.

  3. Insulting Putin and his cronies (Orban, Trump, Musk,...) is absolutely fine but don't use homophobic or similar language against them. Members of the queer community don't deserve to be compared to that scum. Also: Putin disciminates against gay people. If you do as well, you're part of the problem.

  4. Don't insult or use overly harsh language against other commentators.

  5. Don't submit direct links to Twitter/X and Truth Social posts. You may: Post a screenshot + quote, do a full quote and name the author, direct link to a proxy service like ThreadReaderApp.com or Nitter, deep link an image embedded in a tweet because Lemmy will cache a copy.

  6. Don't just complain about paywalls. If you encounter one, be a sport and link to an archived version instead. Use Firefox + Cookie AutoDelete + uBlock Origin with the annoyances filters enabled and https://filterlists.com/lists/bypass-paywalls-clean-filter to avoid encountering many in the first place.
