Honestly this seems like a waste.

If there was some free community edition of this I'd deploy it at our org. But I can promise you that I couldn't get $1 approved for buying a browser, not when there's plenty of free options.

The other thing- contact us for demo- I mean this with all respect but FUCK OFF WITH THAT SHIT. That's what companies do so they don't have to list their million-dollar price tag, and/or want to size up how much they can rip you off for before quoting you. You want people to buy this, make it transparent.

You should deploy standard Firefox and use group policies to lock it down.

Yep, sit through 30+ mins of a sales pitch presentation when I could use that time to set it up and trial it myself.

If you need the kind of things that it’s providing and you need the audit trails for them. Then it’s for sure worth the money. I know a few orgs that would gladly pay for this and I’m passing it along to them.

Why would they pay for Firefox when they likely get that for free with chrome or edge already?

[-] valkyre09@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

Wouldn’t Edge be best placed for corporations with intune etc?

Y'all forgot to read the article. They are targeting the EU since there is a greater push for tech sovereignty.

Mozilla, in the off chance someone in your company reads this. If you want to acquire customers you need to give some sort of community edition so that sysadmins like myself can poke around. I’m not filling up a form and requesting a demo just to see what your likely paid solution is, especially since the alternatives MSFT and Google provide are already built into their existing licenses so there’s no additional fee for us. I support the initiative, but I also wanna see what it’s about too.

You should write to them.with that. Its really good feedback

That entire thing with filling in a form and requesting a demo is ridiculous. So typical of Mozilla to copy the most cringe corporate shit they can find.

The company has no technical soul anymore. It's all corporate bullshit and gender politics.

It's like Microsoft now, just corporate shit.

This article is like 99% buzzwords, 1% intelligible. Here's the main part:

Firefox Enterprise is built for organizations with strict security, governance, and compliance requirements. It pairs the Firefox browser, built on Mozilla’s independent Gecko engine, with a management console organizations can run on their own infrastructure. From that console, IT teams can centrally manage browser policy and access, govern how data moves through the browser and set controls around AI use.

Firefox already had pretty good policy management. Better than chrome safari. Edge has a lot built in but us still missing some options.

I'm not sure what improvement this will provide. I think they're just offering it because chrome has it's own paid enterprise offering.

As far as I can see it'll be the same as Chrome so add DLP on top of the cloud managed configurations and I think I saw specific DLP for AI data exfiltration.

Does this include profile sync?

Migrating profiles is a headache, and anything besides Edge isn’t supported at work.
