Saxony-Anhalt Gov. Sven Schulze of the Christian Democratic Union criticized the initiative. He noted that the resolution did not mention Russian aggression, even though Russia shells Ukrainian cities daily. Schulze said the AfD and BSW wanted to deprive Ukraine of the ability to defend itself. The state government will decide how to proceed after further discussion.

Get your shit together Germany.

This is a state level government holding a vote for show that affects nothing, because they have no jurisdiction. It has no legal weight. It’s in bad taste, but they can’t actually stop shipments to Ukraine, fortunately.

So, in practical terms, it means about the same as if we held a vote to say that the AfD sucks.

Does Lemmy have a history I don't know about of exterminating jews by the millions or is this just a flippant careless comparison?

[-] Jiral@lemmy.world 37 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

This report is borderline disinformation, of the kind Russia likes to boost.

This was a meaningless vote on a matter that this institution has no say over and that us not even supported by the local government. It is jzst the best, Russia's peopke coukd do in the local assembly.

Its purpose is exclusively to spread the headline OP helped spreading.

[-] Hond@piefed.social 26 points 1 day ago

Context for non-germans: "Mann aus Sachsen" aka saxony man is the equivalent to florida man.

[-] Redditquaza@feddit.org 15 points 1 day ago

Additional context: Sachsen, Sachsen-Anhalt and Niedersachsen are three completely different states.

[-] HieroProtagonist@feddit.org 61 points 1 day ago

This decision has about the same power as if the city council of Hinternschiethausen-Donnerbalkenheim would have made this vote. It's purely symbolic and meaningless.

[-] Zacryon@feddit.org 22 points 1 day ago

It is not meaningless. It shows how the AfD is going to do business if they get to power.

Its good to point out that this does in fact not cause shipments or sanctions to stop, because the headline would have you believe otherwise. But yeah it still has meaningful implications.

The far-right (and far-left) in Europe stands very close to dictatorial regimes like Russia and China, but this decision is meaningless as someone already said. The decision for Ukraine support is made in the German federal government, not in the states.

The message it sends is not, Germany is drowning in cowards.

I really don't see a realistic leftwing association with russia though, of course they exist but russia is violently incompatible with most modern leftist movements what does Putin care about human rights or democratic freedoms?

Putin is just another dictator thug, nothing is leftwing about him, he is like every other powerful rightwing conservative in every single aspect that matters.

[-] Jiral@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

BSW is just as bought by Russia as the AfD.

[-] UnfortunateShort@lemmy.world 5 points 1 day ago

This is not the mesage here at all. The message is that some would rather be buddies with Russia (i.e. at least the parties who voted for this). It is the opposite of 'not standing up'. It's switching sides.

[-] Melchior@feddit.org 8 points 1 day ago

BSW also voted for it and they used to be part of the left Linke. In ideology they basically want the GDR back in a lot of ways. Not the ideal Communism, but what the GDR actually was. As in a dictatorship with a strong social welfare system, hard government intervention in the economy. The foreign policy is hardcore pacifist. As in no weapons to Ukraine and anybody else. They also run against refugees.

You find this a lot in the former Easter Block. There is a huge demand for a feeling of safety. Melanchon in France also seems to run on a similar platform.

[-] kossa@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago

huge demand

Yeah, barely even clearing the 5% threshold is "huge demand". Like, when they even can't cut it in a failed state like Sachsen-Anhalt, the threat of BSW is de facto nonexistant. It can't work anyway, like trying to have slightly progressive economy politics and hard right societal politics is a contradiction which can't be really solved.

[-] Jiral@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

It adds to the Russian block though. So you can add those 5% to whatever the AfD has, on any matters Russia cares about.

Somewhat true, but...

When looking for associations with Putin, why would you look on the left?

Of course the AfD is aligned with russia

[-] pinto@lemmy.world 34 points 1 day ago

But .ml told me that Nazis support Ukraine, just don't look at who Nazis actually support. Facts get removed by ml

[-] trollercoaster@sh.itjust.works 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

For the denizens of .ml, the German political spectrum has just the right party, too: the BSW. A bunch of batshit insane (as in antivaxxers) self proclaimed "peace loving" "leftists", conveniently also supported by Russia.

Purely coincidentally those nutjobs voted for that bullshit motion together with the Nazis of the AfD.

[-] bob_lemon@feddit.org 10 points 1 day ago

By .ml logic, this simply means that the AfD are not Nazis (and every one who claims otherwise is spouting imperialist propaganda)

[-] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 9 points 1 day ago

I've been there before, its always conveniently ignored by ml

[-] pinto@lemmy.world 19 points 1 day ago

Facts hurt their feelings :(

[-] Jesus_666@lemmy.world 11 points 1 day ago

You mean the party that has made numerous inquiries on matters of state security, including supply routes, for no apparent reason? The party that has essentially permanent representation in Moscow? The party that actively campaigns for voters with a Russian immigration background, to the point of making Russian-language ads? The party that has officially maintained the position that Russia should keep Crimea ever since the first invasion?

Yeah, no surprise they're kissing daddy Putin's feet yet again.

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 9 points 1 day ago

Musk also propping it up is dead giveaway to, since musk is also involved with putin.

[-] T00l_shed@lemmy.world 1 points 1 day ago

And musk is a nazi too

[-] ptsdstillinmymind@lemmy.today 11 points 1 day ago

This is what happens when our governments refuse to root out corruption and put treasonous people in prison. Because all these corrupt asS politicians care about is getting money from anywhere they can get it.

[-] slaacaa@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

*financed by Russia

[-] Zwuzelmaus@feddit.org 4 points 1 day ago

Get your shit together Germany.

Not happening soon.

[-] trollercoaster@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 day ago

Worse. If things keep going as they are, the shit that Germany will get together will be a giant pile of brown Nazi shit in the bright blue varnish of the AfD.
