Peak ignorance.

[-] RedWeasel@lemmy.world 55 points 4 days ago

Climate does not exist so it should be fine. /s

[-] BooBees@fedinsfw.app 27 points 4 days ago

If we stop counting catastrophes, the numbers will magically go down by Easter!

[-] MightEnlightenYou@lemmy.world 42 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Someone should tell him that golf courses rely on weather forecasts to make the courses better and run them cheaper.

Or, you know, impeach him...

[-] ryannathans@aussie.zone 10 points 3 days ago

Impeachment doesn't get rid of them

[-] artyom@piefed.social 3 points 3 days ago

No but it could get rid of him

[-] ryannathans@aussie.zone 5 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Unlikely, impeachment does not mean anything will really happen. Removal requires Senate conviction by two-thirds of senators present. Trump has been impeached twice already

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

Might as well let Trump set an unbeatable record

[-] 13igtyme@startrek.website 3 points 2 days ago

Twice impeached should already be an unbeatable record, but like how we all thought Bush was the stupidest president we'd ever get, there's always room for the bar to go lower.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 3 days ago

Unlikely but possible. Better than doing nothing.

[-] takeda@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 3 days ago

He is the face of the problem, but the problem is much deeper.

He would be a funny joke, if he didn't have people to drive this behind the scenes.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

Sure but getting rid of him is a damn good start

[-] Radical_Socialist_t00t@lemmy.ca 3 points 3 days ago

It really doesn't, you need a very heavy rock and a lot of friends.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 22 points 3 days ago

If we stop testing right now, we’d have very few [COVID] cases, if any,

Trump honestly believes that if you close your eyes it will go away. That or he just wants to stop providing evidence for his enemies (the American people).

[-] AlecSadler@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago

It's an infantile lack of development and yet he is president of the US...the country known to put Karen's on a pedestal.

[-] switcheroo@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

At least it will affect red states more than blue. Get what you vote for, morons.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

This just a day or two after that article about how AI is going to allow us to predict the weather weeks/months in advance.

Get ready for weather slop reports.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

i can outslop their slop. give me the historical database, i'll average the historical numbers for the day with the historical numbers for the month and year respectively. we can just get rid of thermometers it's gonna be so ~~fucking hilarious if someone actually uses it~~ accurate

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

Back to the Farmer's Almanac

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

those were legitimately good reading material.

[-] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 6 points 3 days ago

Don't look up.

[-] SoloCritical@lemmy.world 5 points 3 days ago

It certainly is awakening.

[-] northendtrooper@lemmy.ca 5 points 3 days ago

A) He wants his techbros to put their satellites in place of us govt.

B) He believes that removing weather satellites will eliminate hurricanes.

[-] falynns@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Just like Covid numbers, he wanted to stop testing because testing shows the numbers going up. No tests, no numbers to go up. Standard GOP party line; lie, deflect, obfuscate.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago

Funny how many people in this thread made this rather obscure correlation.

[-] Space_Cowboy92@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago

He’s taking the Covid approach, can’t see accurate weather models? Then climate change doesn’t exist!!

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Which....face it, every gaslighting anti-scientific idiot and those with the engineer's disease have had on their wish list for-fucking-ever. Since before "politically correct" morphed into "woke".

Some of them probably have a permanent erection after the dismantling of NREL and NCAR.

They fucking hated it when those smarter than they are could point to things like government agencies tracking climate change. Now, they cannot. At least not in the USA. Guess we'll have to rely on more advanced countries now.

Since donnie dumbass and the conservative movement is hellbent on taking us backwards.

[-] prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 3 days ago

What is "the engineer's disease"?

[-] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

You can find various discussions about engineer's syndrome or engineer's disease all over the place, but once you see it yourself, you'll never unsee it. It may be you've already seen it in action, just never had it named.

A for instance:

https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=10812804

https://thunkshow.com/2019/07/24/172.-'Engineer's-Syndrome'-and-Learning-Techniques.html

I went for a Computer Science degree, and took so much of the same coursework as engineers, and it was a near-constant experience in talking with a haughty engineering student - and that's when they were just in the training phase. This was prior to the dot-com run-up to the dot-com bubble, so Computer Science was definitely thought of (by engineers) as some kind of red-headed step-child with no real point to it - so I think that dialed up these sort of anecdotal interactions in school.

It's not just engineers, though. I've seen cases where doctors (of the MD type) do this sort of thing.

Anyway, it's particularly hilarious to see, say, an EE or ME do this with politics, the humanities, evolution, vaccines, or climate change.

[-] aesthelete@lemmy.world 8 points 3 days ago

Decade? It's definitely worse than 2016 already.

[-] newthrowaway20@lemmy.world 13 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

Not like it's been a particularly active decade. Right? Right??

[-] LuceVendemiaire@lemmy.dbzer0.com 11 points 3 days ago

my forecast went from perfect predictions of weeks to being unable to tell if its gonna rain in the next hour, I don't want to find out how worse it could get

What the fuck hasn't Trump and his administration set back at least a decade (before his reign of terror started)?

What's everyone's favorite non-American weather website?

[-] PalmTreeIsBestTree@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

I use an app called Weawow and you can change the source of the weather to alternatives.

[-] rethnor@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 days ago

The weather has been so fucked lately it's really hard to compare them. I see a spread of of over 10 degree differences between open meteo, Google, AccuWeather, and wunderground.

Tomorrow AccuWeather says 78, OpenMeteo says 81, and Google says 74.

I will say open source apps default to OpenMeteo, im not sure how to compare what a site predicts vs actual weather.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

im not sure how to compare what a site predicts vs actual weather.

that's kind of tough because the forecast changes at least every day. which forecast do you measure off of? the one that morning? the one the day before? the one a week before? ~all~ ~of~ ~them?~ wunderground has a historical weather tab you can at least get the actual data from but if i'm getting that invested i'm setting up a local weather station.

[-] turmacar@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

All of those are basically front-ends for the National Weather Service and other mostly(?) public institutions that have actual weather satellites and generate the actual data.

I'm a fan of Windy because it lets you choose and compare/contrast forecast models. You can even compare which model has been more accurate for your location in particular.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

eeee thank you i am a data geek that looks so neat

[-] rethnor@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

At first if look at the day of. On the day of prediction how do the high and lows compare against the predicted values for that day. It's kind of a check, how much can I trust what they say. One store is saying I need to prep for rain, another that it'll be clear, they aren't usually that extreme but it's come close.

And I've considered getting a weather station and doing my own comparison since some stations arent very close.

[-] AA5B@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Should be obvious but it’s not the website nor even the forecast, but they all depend on having sufficient data

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

i have preferred wunderground for a while, but they are not what they were before they got bought out. also they're based in San Francisco.

i've been looking for a new weatherwebsite for like a decade now. i have not looked very hard, but it's a back burner project

[-] lennybird@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

(this is the goal).

To sabotage every aspect of USA.

Trump enriches himself and dodges prison; foreign adversaries get a leg-up.

[-] architect@thelemmy.club 1 points 3 days ago

More like destroy the west so the technogarchs can claim the new world order and rebuild in their vision.
