Boredom. Especially exotic cats like that.
Imagine being in your home with no electronics or books. You might feel like you want to go for a walk, but pacing around the house isn't doing it for you and outside isn't an option. A treadmill starts looking pretty good.
Are most cats receptive to these things or certain personalities of cats? How would I know if my cat would like something like this if I was interested in getting one?

My cats do this when on their wheel, but much louder, they love it when I watch. They also use it as a scratching pad before and after.
