Recognizing that their brand is cancer, AIPAC halts public endorsements and traceable direct contributions to candidates

[-] Tolookah@discuss.tchncs.de 47 points 2 days ago

"as per executive order, we are now SuperIntelligencePAC"

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 10 points 2 days ago

Now they'll be secretly donating through subsidiaries and shell companies.

"We have examined our political impact, and discovered that we are just as toxic as the nation we represent."

[-] Lasherz12@lemmy.world 15 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

The KKK is known to put their public facing support towards those who they wanted to lose. That is at least before Trump gave their ideology enough cover to give real endorsements. I guess that's where we're heading with AIPAC

[-] crusa187@lemmy.ml 42 points 2 days ago

The best part about this is that their new policy will still bribe politicians with millions in cash, but will now enable those politicians to state they do NOT take PAC donations or money from AIPAC. They’re publicly stating they will do the same bribes behind closed doors now to give politicians cover on the incredibly unpopular policy of Israel First. Truly absurd.

[-] Skyrmir@lemmy.world 35 points 2 days ago

In other words, they're going to hide their donations and influence from the public.

[-] bigmclargehuge@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 days ago

This. Their brand is toxic af. There will be other shell orgs dumping money in.

[-] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 21 points 2 days ago

I suspect Chuck took them aside and said, “Fellas, we gotta work something else out here”

But yes. Donating via many individuals now, instead of as a PAC. Is what the PAC will be doing.

[-] Rat_in_a_hat@lemmy.ca 9 points 2 days ago

Yes, through individuals, but still doing via PACs but either a super PAC (United Democracy Project) or many smaller PACs with inconspicuous names.

Also, AIPAC is one of many pro-Israel PACs

JSTREET, JDCA, AIPAC, DMFI, JAC are some of the big ones.

[-] foggy@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

So they're obfuscating it more now.

[-] TropicalDingdong@lemmy.world 19 points 2 days ago

Task failed successfully. All donations now routed through proxy organizations. Initiate shadow war.

[-] Canconda@lemmy.ca 15 points 2 days ago

#SelfAwareWolves

[-] mikenurre@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

They still own Bari Weiss

[-] Rentlar@lemmy.ca 8 points 2 days ago

Start the clock in January, Democrats will have 6 years maximum to legislate away the Citizens United loopholes and enaxt long-overdue court reform as well.

[-] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago

Trump will veto for the next 2 years, but making him do that will help set the stage for a president who won't.

Well that's just too bad. I enjoyed watching them waste money while simultaneously telling me who not to vote for.

[-] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 8 points 2 days ago

Is it because they know it would be akin to organizing deck chairs on the titanic or do they know the fix is in? 🤔

[-] OwOarchist@pawb.social 6 points 2 days ago

Nah, they've just realized that their brand is toxic with a lot of voters, so now they're going to be doing their 'donations' in secret.

[-] BuckFutter@timeyak.com 2 points 2 days ago

Ahh so a rebrand is coming lol. AIPACv2 lol

[-] ramble81@lemmy.zip 6 points 2 days ago

All this means is they’re going to donate through Shell-PACs (donation made by “Totally-not-from-AIPAC-wink) to hide their direct influence.

Since disclosure laws only go one level deep, it’s trivial to do.

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 days ago

Because they see maga is starting to fail. They want to start bribing democrats now. But they know they can’t do that openly.

[-] workerONE@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

But they do contribute to Democratic candidates. They spent over 30 million just in Michigan against El Sayed.

This seems like a big deal in a good way

[-] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 8 points 2 days ago

It's moderately sized deal. AIPAC actually only started doing direct contributions a couple of years ago; before that IIRC they had their members and subsidiary PACs give ~~bribes~~ donations instead. Still, presumably they made that switch for a reason, so backtracking like this is basically them admitting that nobody likes them. I'm admittedly not as sure about the endorsements part.

[-] cattywampas@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

If nothing else, it's a sign of the Overton window shifting and the US population growing more frustrated with the USA's relationship with Israel.

[-] impairedimperator@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 days ago

They're just gonna change the name and keep donating.

Excellent, keep it up forever please

[-] dan1101@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Israel needs the money more for weapons
