This looks like one of those ban evasion accounts that are being built up with fake activity.

Mods, watch this, we’ve had a run of this over in Lemmy world videos.

Where’s the backpack? Scammed

Good for him. But it is not unusual.

I live near the American Discovery Trail and have hosted many hikers and bikers that have walked across the United States.

With all due respect, you live near the American Discovery Trail so you have a skewed perception of normalcy with that lol

It is definitely unusual for someone to walk across the United States. Wikipedia has a list of famous walks (which, of course, doesn't include the average joes who have done it) but the fact that the page exists lends to the idea that it's pretty notable!

That link got mangled for me for some reason. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_people_who_have_walked_across_the_United_States

Anyway. I knew a guy who did the walk. It was his fun fact at parties. He wasn't white and said he learned to call ahead to let authorities know he was coming through on foot.

(looks like I typoed a / at the start of the URL)

It's a great party fact! Very few people have done it and it's a legitimate accomplishment regardless

You are correct my partners cousin did this for some awareness that I don’t even remember what it was.

[-] susieq0044@sh.itjust.works 10 points 17 hours ago

I always wanted to do this, but what kept me from doing it is that you need a backpack with a water bottle, food, clean clothing, a raincoat.. or you need a crew to help you transport all that stuff. I wonder what option this guy selected…

Implying that walking a very long distance is somehow the purview of the privileged, is wild.

I hope you too can find the executive function, or tamp down the anxiety, or whatever it is you need, and one day can tackle a hill as tall as "need a backpack"...

Apparently you don’t walk much. I do. You need at least water. And a wallet to buy new shoes. And this guy would need a charger for his phone too. No, something is fishy.

[-] Nouvellalia@lemmy.world 0 points 11 hours ago

On the contrary, I've even done it with a water bottle, food, clean clothing, a raincoat..

What's 3000 miles in real unites?

[-] Bahnd@lemmy.world 7 points 13 hours ago

0.0000322734 AU

[-] Shave_MyBeever@lemmy.world 7 points 15 hours ago

16,093,440 metric feet

[-] frosty@pawb.social 3 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

about 4800 km (roughly 8km to 5mi), so 3000 * 8/5 = 4800

It's slightly more than that as the ratio isn't quite that perfect. :o)

I’m surprised he didn’t get hit by a car in Kansas.

Mildly Interesting

This is for strictly mildly interesting material. If it's too interesting, it doesn't belong. If it's not interesting, it doesn't belong.

This is obviously an objective criteria, so the mods are always right. Or maybe mildly right? Ahh.. what do we know?

Just post some stuff and don't spam.
