Dear community, often, when people mention they listen to "hard music", I just don't feel the energy in what they show me. Many times I get to hear just monotonous, noisy, wannabe-hard sounds, but they fail to "transport energy" to me. I am looking for absolute bangers, no matter the genre. Pretty much the pinnacle of how much raw power one can convey through music. I know that this is highly subjective, but with enough suggestions, there might be some good stuff to be discovered. So far, I have only found a hand full of songs that I perceive as "hitting hard". Andrew Hulshult has some great songs in the DUSK soundtrack (example above), and Noisia makes some bangers, their "Imperial EP" was the first time I can remember feeling what I am looking for. Please only post serious suggestions.

Edit: Thanks for all the answers! I'll need some time to "work through" these. ;)

Any Pantera song, just start at Fucking Hostile and work your way through.

Nope, not yet :) Thanks for the link, that IS hitting hard! ^^

Yeah man glad you enjoy it - one of those bands I don't think of or listen to often but immediately popped into my head when I saw your question - got it on the stereo cranked right now myself

[–] TheBiscuitLout@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Oh my word, this is the correct answer

[–] brap@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Ah man, I never saw them back in the day but I saw their tribute tour a few years back with another vocalist and that was amazing. Great shout, gonna bang that on in a minute!

[–] Qluless@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Try some of these

Heaviest Lamb of God - Vanishing, Desolution, To the End, Anthropoid

...unique, always energetic Devin Townsend - Mighty Masturbator (starts slow... wild ride), Kingdom, Liberation, Juular

Excellent melodies Brendon Small - Beastblade, On My Way

[–] Qluless@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

I suck at formatting. Band names are: Lamb of God, Devin Townsend, & Brendon Small

[–] OverBiasedAndroid6L6@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Blood Eagle by Periphery is pretty damn heavy, but it may sound like noise on the first listen. The mix is dense, so it can take a minute to really digest what you're hearing.

It'll take me a while to listen to all these answers, but I can already say: Thank you for introducing me to Spor! <3

Here's a few of my favorites, across a few genres. Each of these goes very hard in their own right. Some in unexpected ways, but they all have a really strong energy behind them.

Carpenter Brut - The Widow Maker
Carpenter Brut - Turbo Killer
GosT - Maleficarum
Perturbator - She Moves Like A Knife (NSFW thumbnail)
Heilung - Norupo
Nightwish - Noise
Abbath - Winterbane
Rotting Christ - Χ Ξ Σ (666)
Gojira - Stranded
BLVCK CEILING - WVFFLIFE
Machinae Supremacy - Player One
KMFDM - A Drug Against War
Mindless Self Indulgence - Witness

Then, if you have the time, these two are both some personal favorites of mine, but they're pretty long. But definitely worth the time, as they are not only absolutely beautiful songs on their own, but they also go very hard.

20:58: Nightwish - The Greatest Show On Earth (This is a live version of the song, and tells a story about the Big Bang and the birth of our universe, and has a special appearance by Richard Dawkins.)
14:07: Blind Guardian - And Then There Was Silence (This song is heavily inspired by The Iliad, the classic Greek poem by Homer.)

RIOT - Overkill

Sullivan King & Ray Volpe - The Dead March

Virtual Riot - Wallmonger

Crankdat - Ding Dong

shwirl, -Alow, & faux ivvy - kocham cię

Dyers Eve by Metallica is a pretty overlooked song. It’s raw, aggressive and pretty deep. There may be heavier songs in this thread but the anger in this song really elevates it.

And there’s also most Pantera songs.

[–] kiwifoxtrot@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Dyers Eve is the perfect recommendation.

[–] leraje@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

You Will Never Be One Of Us - by Nails

Death Walking Terror - by Cannibal Corpse

All The Devils Are Here - by Dyscarnate

Flying Whales by Gojira

Holy Roller by Spiritbox

Death To The Holy by Zeal & Ardor

If it's energy you're looking for, I don't think I've ever seen much more of a "banger" than French band Shaka Ponk's "Palabra Mi Amor"

There is an interesting division when it comes to music that is perceived as "hard", and that is groove. Some just want music to sound evil and have harsh sounds, others require groove to feel the power. So, here are my recommendations with some groove:
Everything by Devildriver
Everything by Dethklok

[–] C4d@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

DethKlok in general; that stuff is put together extremely well

Have you considered Mick Gordon’s Doom soundtrack?

Off the top of my head there’s also “Hell Patrol” (Judas Priest):

https://youtu.be/qp9fqO4etHM

Maybe the opening of “New Drugs” (Dead When I Found Her):

https://youtu.be/Z24aHbq5U_g

Or maybe “The Serpents of Eden” (Dawn of Ashes):

The Greatest Show On Earth, especially from the 5:46 mark (epilepsy warning - EXTREME flashing lights)

[–] DAC_Protogen@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

That's lovely, thanks!

Great question, and I have two to suggest:

Cattle Battle - Atticus Ross and Trent Reznor. Builds with a punching industrial sound that's rife with Reznor's flavour, and climaxes hard with a moment of quiet before the impact.

Straight for the Sun/Desolation - Lamb of God. Intro is a quick breath and pure fury through Sun, then a seamless transition to Desolation which is a machine gun metal blast to the face.

I'm definitely saving this thread for later, personally I love the new Doom games soundtrack, or anything else from Mick Gordon. In a similar vibe I loved the soundtrack for a game called Cube, the guy that composed it (Marc A. Pullman) has an album that's great called Odious (other things by him are great also, but Odious is my favourite).

[–] immortaly007@feddit.nl 2 points 1 year ago

Really good suggestions already (Meshuggah, Spiritbox etc). But this list is not complete without: Rage against the machine - Bullet in the head, wake up, testify, sleep now in the fire. All great!

[–] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

I've always really liked Du Hast, by Rammstein.

Shining. Specifically, the album Halmstad. Specifically, the first and last songs (the last is one of my favorite songs ever). A brutally heavy album about depression and suicide. Their whole thing (specifically their vocalist, Niklas Kvarforth) is trying to get people to harm themselves and commit suicide. Part gimmick, part truth.

Listen to Halmstad late at night when you're feeling down on life and it's just an insane experience.

Stop by !dsbm@lemmy.world if you want some more - I have a post with some starting bands.

Some other favorites of the genre are Make a Change... Kill Yourself (my favorite), Leviathan, and Xasthur.

Showbiz - Muse

Ænina - Tool

I Get It - Chevelle

[–] teydam@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

well i found out about noisia recently, so I hear what you are saying, but its not really fair to just describe techno and drum/bass as "hard", there's plenty of mumble rap that goes hard, reaggeton, etc. rock n roll. I hope you find more songs that transport the energy to you, because I feel it with a wide variety of music. Just gotta get into it without analyzing too much.

[–] Fermiverse@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter

The Album Samurai ,the song Reiter Maniacs

Second the album Der rote reiter, the same named song.
