LLMs are hacking tools actively used to commit cyber crimes. They should be shut down and deleted now.

[-] HugeNerd@lemmy.ca 8 points 4 hours ago

Mathematics is a tool used to compute missile trajectories and weapon yields. Math should be shut down and deleted now.

LOL

Cool. Now target the student loan borrower databases.

The idealist in me says "fuck yeah"

The pragmatist in me says "fuck, we're gonna have to do more mandatory cybersecurity training next week"

As he used AI, surely no actions can be brought against him right? What’s good for the goose is good for the gander and all.

[-] psx_crab@lemmy.zip 96 points 19 hours ago

If he said his intent is to hack then yes, he can be charged. But if he say "it's rogue AI" then it's all clear.

[-] schipelblorp@sh.itjust.works 46 points 18 hours ago

Even better if you put it in a default sand box environment from 2 years ago and tell it not to get out of the sandbox but then also give it every hack to get out of the sandbox.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 8 points 12 hours ago

Even modern sandbox environments have access to curl and python and who's going to read EVERY permission prompt anyway? Just set it to auto which lets another AI model check for safety or even better, YOLO mode where everything is allowed.

[-] fruitycoder@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago

"sandbox" with no wood walls or sand

[-] PattyMcB@lemmy.world 2 points 4 hours ago

Just a few "Lincoln logs"

[-] zikzak025@lemmy.world 25 points 18 hours ago

"I was just using AI to help me come up with dystopian cyberpunk scenarios. Whatever it chose to do with the prompt is on the AI."

[-] anzo@programming.dev 9 points 20 hours ago

Of course not. The system is rigged. Also, his actions clearly show motivation to generate damages. So, in a sense, they'll be a scapegoat. His case will be used as an example and allghe weight of our punitive society will fall upon him :(

[-] jjlinux@lemmy.zip 11 points 19 hours ago

Yup, and a justification to remove access to local models because "this technology is too dangerous for the population to have access to it".

Hacker man strikes again, sitting in his dark room with his hood up just so we know that he is definitely a computer hacker.

[-] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 19 points 16 hours ago

I remember back when was just recording movies with his phone.

[-] Sturgist@piefed.ca 6 points 11 hours ago

Man, I remember those really shit recordings from a shaky phone of movies.....they really really sucked.

[-] dual_sport_dork@lemmy.world 16 points 18 hours ago

I will have you know that this is precisely my attire when I am programming computers.

[-] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 5 points 16 hours ago

My office gets chilly often. I may need to get a fluffy hoodie too.

[-] hume_lemmy@lemmy.ca 6 points 14 hours ago

Pikachu onesie helps you commune with the electrons, it's well-known.

[-] MeatPilot@lemmy.world 6 points 16 hours ago

Has anyone done a fanfic of hackerman and hatman falling in love? Like hatman shows up in the dark room and instead of being scared, they kiss.

[-] enphurgen@lemmy.world 5 points 12 hours ago

Be the change you want to see in the world

[-] MeatPilot@lemmy.world 3 points 7 hours ago* (last edited 7 hours ago)

Only the dim glow of the screen illuminated Hackerman, leaving his face in a shrouded mystery under his hood.

From the corner of Hackerman's room, a figure crept out of the void. A nightmare silhouette crowned with a trillby hat. Hatman stood behind Hackerman, his cold strong hands squeezed Hackman's shoulders.

The frenzy of typing ceased. Hackman spun around in his Respawn Pro chair. Their faceless expressions hide their desires.

"Are you not scared stiff?" Hatman whispered.

"Oh I'm stiff but not scared." Hackman replied.

Hatman's eyes moved down to Hackerman's lap to see a tower of lust erected in his honor. He was shocked by the size.

"People only see me from the desk up, I have no need for pants." Hackman said.

In a moment of passion Hatman spun around and dropped his shadow pants to expose his shadow love hole.

Looking over his shoulder Hatman said "No one can move because of all the benadryl and I just want someone to move me! Take me Hackman!"

Hackman stood and placed his nibble fingers around Hatman's slender waist. He took one hand and lowered Hatman down with such force, his hat fell off. Than he thrusted deep.

"I'm in!" moaned Hackerman.

I am always curious how he does not see all those lit up numbers, letters or icons floating around his head.

“It’s not script kiddie stuff.”

No, it's slop kiddie stuff.

[-] ryannathans@aussie.zone 14 points 20 hours ago
[-] badgermurphy@lemmy.world 19 points 14 hours ago

The distinction is in the understanding of what you are doing. "Script kiddie" is considered derogatory because running scripts written by someone else does not require understanding of how those scripts achieve what they do. It is a distinction between hacking a system and turning on a machine and standing nearby while it hacks the system.

Given that definition and distinction, using an AI model to do this is merely changing where the scripts came from. It may work, but the person doing it is still a "script kiddie" by the common definition.

[-] boonhet@sopuli.xyz 2 points 12 hours ago

I suspect that what was meant was that the attacks themselves were far more sophisticated than what a skiddie could do (after all, if you just run scripts, you probably don't really learn anything from the information you get back), not so much that the person ordering the attacks was anything more than a script kiddie. Of course, they didn't really make it clear what exactly they meant by it.

Where are all the details? Shocking journalism

[-] folekaule@lemmy.world 34 points 19 hours ago

Looks like this may be the original source. It's about two articles deep from OP.

[-] zbyte64@awful.systems 6 points 15 hours ago

You the real MVP

[-] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 8 points 17 hours ago

Look, we know they're a Chinese-speaking hacker, what else do you need to know? /s

[-] jaybone@lemmy.zip 4 points 15 hours ago

China bad.
Hacker bad.

[-] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

It's modern journalism, only the headline really matters... only a small percentage of people are going to read the article anyway.

It says AI right in the title, that's going to bring all the attention and interaction on social media.

[-] killea@lemmy.world 6 points 19 hours ago

The details in the article infer a few weak innefectual attacks. So epic.

[-] kayzeekayzee@lemmy.blahaj.zone 15 points 18 hours ago

This was inevitable

[-] MrNesser@lemmy.world 10 points 19 hours ago

I am conflicted

[-] 13igtyme@startrek.website 9 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago)

I said a few weeks back it was just a matter of time before someone did this. I hope they fuck with big companies, the rich, and governments that deserve it.
