Imagine the drum set you have to make after this

Go listen to the St Anger album by Metallica, and you’ll have your answer

Imagine the size of the trash can lid needed for this

I don't see the part where it's a dagger.

Awesome work nonetheless.

The original thing is called a rondel or roundel dagger

What I made is a wooden version that's apparently a standard for training with them

This looks great. Did you turn this on a lathe? I assume the piece is used in some kinda combat sport? It looks like it could be heavy drumstick

Yeah, I posted some in-progress pics yesterday, biggest lathe job I've had so far - it's used for HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts)

You’re welcome to come test it out on me. I could use a good noggin’ busting today.

Awesome. I was going to guess SCA but half remembered their gear is made of rattan. Your work looks great for it being the biggest job so far.

Intended as a rondel trainer in specific, or general dagger?

[-] CelloMike@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

I think as a rondel trainer yeah, that's what the guy said anyway and sent a picture of something much like this

[-] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Neat :)

I've never messed with hema, it didn't get going until well after my body could do such things. But it's always cool to see gear for it, particularly specific stuff like this

It's dangerous to go alone! Take this
