People wanted a new Twitter and just completely ignored Mastadon. 🙄

[-] chewypoops@lemmy.world 55 points 3 days ago

Yeah, but joining an instance is so hard guys. How am I supposed to know which one to join? What if I join the wrong one? The human brain was never meant to know more than one domain name.

The whole Internet should just be one single website so I don't have to think. But I will complain about how only one rich guy owns that website, but I'll do it on that website since it's the "public square".

[-] dangling_cat@piefed.blahaj.zone 13 points 2 days ago

I want a decentralized democratic system but the only way to get there is to centralize power and give it to one entity!

I think it’s better to explain instances as phone booths or conference rooms.

[-] chewypoops@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

That's an awful comparison.

It's like email.

You can have a gmail.com address, and send and receive emails between yahoo.com and hotmail.com addresses without issues. Nobody really cares which provider you chose, and if you really want to, you can register your own domain and host email yourself.

If this doesn't land, then the person you're talking to probably has never used a computer.

But they are just different entraces to the same "public square": the fediverse

[-] fractal618@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

That’s where I’m not 100% sure. Either each instance maintains a copy of the public square, or there is no public square each piece of content is hosted on one instance and viewable from other instances

[-] fractal618@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

The bluesky conference room is muting participants in the conference call

[-] zebidiah@lemmy.ca 12 points 2 days ago

Well.... They did get a new Twitter lol

[-] Zorque@lemmy.world 36 points 3 days ago

Well yeah, they wanted a new twitter, not something different and potentially better.

i didn't, I'm on Mastodon and would never consider Bluesky.

[-] nullspace@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Mastadon branding sucks ass.

Weakshit, "Twitter of the Left" more like "Xitter of the Center-Right"

[-] WappleFF27@feddit.online 44 points 3 days ago

It's a corpo, you know where they stand even if they haven't fully played their hand.

[-] RickyRigatoni@piefed.zip 4 points 2 days ago

I don't know why people are surprised. Bluesky always billed itself as twitter before musk, and twitter before musk was full of liberals.

[-] DigitalTraveler42@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

This isn't "liberal" shit, this is right leaning centrist shit, I know you'll argue "you just described liberal" but that's just your biases speaking, these are the same centrists that were okay with Hitler coming to power in the 1930's, same exact attitudes, same exact apathy.

Also to add to the "don't be so smug" message, we see the same exact kind of apathy from those who claim themselves to be Far-Left, Progressive, Socialist, and Communist, just a bunch of shit heads who can't get past their own self interests in order to unify against a fascist threat, or multiple fascist threats. They would rather sniff their own egotistical farts then raise one finger to help society change incrementally because it doesn't yield results fast enough for their entitled asses.

Why others government employees are public, but ICE has some special treatment? Is it because they are really trump's gestapo?

Yes, that is exactly why.

[-] lorty@lemmy.ml 9 points 2 days ago

It's one of the aspects a secret police needs to work

[-] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 21 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

yes exactly, remembers renees killer they quickly put him in "witness protection" and hid them in another state to avoid doxxing. avoid potential prison, doxxing by family members, and from employers.

[-] Denfa@lemmy.world 24 points 3 days ago

To shield them from prison for breaking the law

[-] kn33@lemmy.world 94 points 3 days ago

Well, then it's a good thing I have this.

[-] SeeMarkFly@lemmy.ml 29 points 3 days ago

It's just like a virus, now I have it too.

[-] CorrectAlias@piefed.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 days ago

Wow, I see hundreds of people with this virus right now! There's probably more, too!

[-] lucyph0r@lemmy.world 6 points 3 days ago

Oh no is that how virus' work

[-] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

Seeding, thanks.

[-] canttakeitwithyou@lemmy.zip 41 points 2 days ago

And this is why you don't turn to Bluesky. If they'll censor this, they'll censor anything.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 18 points 3 days ago

Ops it's down. Probably best to just share the magnet link.

[-] Blibly@lemmy.world 33 points 3 days ago

Bluesky was cool for like 3 days. Then they let JD Vance start posting there and immediately wiped out all their cred. Now its just pre-Elon Twitter, and that place already sucked ass before he bought it.

“Our Community Guidelines protect people’s safety and privacy by prohibiting the unauthorized sharing of personal information and other content that could pose safety risks. Because the files include the email addresses and phone numbers of individuals, shared without their authorization, we are blocking links to the dataset.”

I understand where they're coming from because they shouldn't pick-and-choose who gets doxxed, the info in the leak hasn't been vetted it could contain random innocents, if violence happens and someone was enabled by info on their platform they could be held liable etc. etc. Like I get it, I do, and fuck off for censoring on the side of the fash, but at the dame time I get the feeling they might not be absolutely 100% sincere in removing this from their platform since the block message leaves the URL on it's own line as easily copied text...

[-] chewypoops@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Oh my God, they put the URL on the page. Sharing a screenshot of it is totally fair game, and still spreads the URL, while giving you the plausible deniability of only posting it to criticize Bluesky.

Still, fuck Bluesky for this. I told people that joining "Twitter cloned by cryptobros" was a bad idea, and they didn't listen.

Seriously? Now it's just corporate democrat shit. So much for counter culture.

[-] chewypoops@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

It was founded by crypto grifters with backing from Jack Dorsey. It was a shithole the day it went online. It was never countercultural in the slightest.

[-] Maeve@kbin.earth 6 points 3 days ago

Owned by a comfortable capitalist...

[-] HotsauceHurricane@lemmy.world 18 points 3 days ago

I am unsurprised. That's why I joined the fediverse. Socialist internet is best internet.

[-] drdalek@lemmy.dbzer0.com 14 points 3 days ago

Oops already saved on an offline machine

[-] Treczoks@lemmy.world 10 points 3 days ago

All the more reason to spread it everywhere.

[-] Fishnoodle@lemmy.world 11 points 3 days ago

Yeah a little too late. That shit is all over the place, and it's a relatively small file. It's not like a 45tb file that most people wouldn't want to download in the first place

[-] DevDave@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago

Does this include FEMA staff as well? My partner works for that agency and they've been bleeding staff for years now, can't imagine getting dragged into this chaos not speeding that up.

[-] glitch1985@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

No from what I saw it's just focused on ice, cbp, and uscis. Plus it's not really anything sensitive just names and other basic information.

[-] muusemuuse@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago

Wiretap, define “Streisand effect”

[-] BC_viper@lemmy.world 7 points 3 days ago

Much like a leaky anus. You can try to ignore it, but it doesnt go away.

[-] Gullible@sh.itjust.works 7 points 3 days ago

Boosky. And not as in autumn festive wordplay. I'm expressing distaste for corporate social media.
