Behind closed doors, very little of this went over well with the state’s other Republican Party bigwigs, many of whom were furious at Ramaswamy for doing something that could imperil the elections of others on the Ohio GOP ticket

Yeah, they didn't care about the ad, just that it could drag them down with him.

"You idiot! Empathy is still polling too high!"

Later babe, we are talking politics.

[-] Clambake0351@piefed.zip 19 points 5 days ago

Sure thing! But then what are we gonna do about Vivek?

[-] ParlimentOfDoom@piefed.zip 40 points 4 days ago

Who could have possibly foreseen that victim blaming an abused 9-12 year old could backfire...

And zero remorse. They only care that about the effect it had on themselves.

[-] jj4211@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

But you know who genuinely can't see it backfiring? Absolute sociopaths.

[-] bagsy@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

This is what you get when all of your thoughts and actions are driven by greed and hate.

[-] tacosanonymous@lemmy.blahaj.zone 70 points 5 days ago

Weird. I thought Rape apologia was the GOP’s bread and butter.

[-] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 48 points 5 days ago

So on brand for the republican party. It's the outcome they are unhappy with, not their decisions.

[-] pman@reddthat.com 50 points 5 days ago

Yeah too little too late, it was a move someone who knows they're losing pulls and instead of being classy he did a low thing that made his opponent look way more sympathetic and her mom look so much worse with the slightest investigation, and ties the Republican party more and more with defending rapist pedophiles.

[-] couldhavebeenyou@lemmy.zip 11 points 4 days ago

Don't you worry! They'll have forgotten all about this come next election cycle

[-] pman@reddthat.com 1 points 4 days ago

Thinking is energy intensive and a hard thing to do, it is much easier to forget and not think about it, be it the richest person or the poorest person who make short term decisions that fuck everyone around them over, it's just a matter of scale.

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 38 points 5 days ago

Ramaswamy's ad may have ensured a Democrat wins the Senate.

[-] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 28 points 5 days ago

Only if those voters care enough to go out and vote.

Me too! Not in ohio though.

[-] arctanthrope@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

of course, judging by your username you must be registered in Dor Daedeloth

[-] gothmog@lemmy.today 5 points 4 days ago

Nope. Angband

[-] farmgineer@nord.pub 4 points 4 days ago

I think you overestimate Ohioans, especially as horribly germmandered as it illegally is.

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 9 points 4 days ago

especially as horribly germmandered as it illegally is.

We're talking about a US Senate seat here. Gerrymandering has no effect.

I'm sure there's a School House Rock episode that would explain this better than I can, but the short of it is this: Each state in the USA, no matter how big or small, gets TWO US Senators they send to Washington to represent them in the Senate, no more, no less. Both of the US Senators represent all residents of the state. Every 6 years (the length of term of a Senator), all residents in the entire state vote in that US Senatorial election.

You may be instead thinking about races in the US House of Representatives where there are Congressional districts carving up the geography inside a state. There's no such concept for the US Senators each state sends to Washington.

[-] adarza@lemmy.ca 6 points 4 days ago

state legislatures set the rules by which their state votes. they do have an affect on 'statewide' elections. so yea, gerrymandering matters here, too.

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

Can you give an example of a rule you're thinking of that a gerrymandered state legislature has made that will have a material effect on the outcome of the state's US Senate race, or even more specifically on Ohio's which is where this conversation started?

[-] EbenezerScrew@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

I get what you're saying but one could be putting more polling places in heavier R areas and then less in D areas making the lines longer and harder to vote.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago* (last edited 3 days ago)

That's the secretary of state tho, not the legislature. Valid point tho, just being a pedant

[-] partial_accumen@lemmy.world 4 points 4 days ago

I don't know what state you live in, but thats how it works in mine.

In mine, each county has a County Board of Elections which determine the number and location of polling places. Those County Board of Elections members are appointed by our Secretary of State. The Secretary of State is an elected position by all voters in the state.

So again, Gerrymandering would have zero effect on location or number of polling places in my state.

How does it work in your state where you're seeing Gerrymandering could affect the number or location of polling places?

[-] Malica@lemmy.zip 1 points 4 days ago

I'm betting most of the red ones also rape their kids

[-] HorreC@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago

These republicans need to quit their whining this is what they want, they want to defend the rapests and pedos.

[-] artyom@piefed.social 29 points 5 days ago

“Our numbers cratered, everyone screamed at us, I don’t want to ever repeat anything like this again,” a Ramaswamy ally says. “We could not escape it.”

🤣

[-] bitjunkie@lemmy.world 2 points 4 days ago

Well well well, if it isn't the consequences of my own actions…

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 17 points 4 days ago

You don't want to elect a guy who doesn't stand by what he said or did, do you?

[-] bampop@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

He's shown himself to be a paragon of Republican values, I don't know what all the fuss is about. Supporting and spreading the lies of pedo rapists is what this administration is all about.

[-] ShellMonkey@piefed.socdojo.com 27 points 5 days ago

Had heard Donnie on an interview the other day bragging about how great an idea it was and how he wished he had something like that to run.

Cruel and calous is on brand but apparently so is an unter lack of any ability for reading the room. Nobody with an ounce of sense told him this was a good idea.

[-] ThePowerOfGeek@lemmy.world 19 points 4 days ago

He fucked around...

Hopefully the middle of next week he'll be firmly in 'find out' territory.

[-] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago)

It would be amazing if this blows back on the entire party and is the straw on the camel that pushes Dems over the line.

[-] DMCMNFIBFFF@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

(my bold)

It took 10 long, brutal days, but it appears that Ohio’s GOP gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy is crying uncle: His campaign will stop airing his “rapist protector mom” ad.

[-] NotMyOldRedditName@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

How on earth could he have ever thought that was a good idea omg 😂
