With data centers full of RAM, your PC is apparently the problem.

This dude needs to be rammed into a prison cell

Yeah, what he's saying is completely unreasonable on its face. Data centers have an average utilization of 12-15% according to IBM, and there's 500 billion USDs of unused GPUs in warehouses.

However most people don't fucking know that. Sam "I fucked my sister" Altman shouldn't get a voice at all.

640kb should be enough for everybody! You greedy people having the choice among 8gb PCs today (nvm you could afford 32gb as standard a year ago) are just spoiled traitors.

[-] billwashere@lemmy.world 1 points 6 hours ago

It’s quite terrible OpenAI has a CEO named Sham Cultman

[-] Lickems@piefed.world 2 points 7 hours ago

He can have socialism of ram when we have socialism of wealth. Fuck this guy.

[-] switcheroo@lemmy.world 3 points 8 hours ago

It's quite terrible that people like this exist and we can't fire them into the sun...

[-] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 2 points 9 hours ago

stupid fuck is so damned greedy, he cant think straight

[-] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 3 points 8 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago)

It's not just the greed, it's the sense of entitlement.

[-] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 1 points 7 hours ago

thats one of greed's outlooks

[-] Pyr_Pressure@lemmy.ca 8 points 23 hours ago

These AI CEOs are all so out of touch. They talk like they believe everyone lives in a mansion in can Fransisco with 1000gb/s Internet connection 24/7 and zero down time.

If I had to rely on off-site RAM I would be screwed so so often.

[-] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 4 points 14 hours ago

It’s not about the bandwidth. It’s about them charging you for use.

[-] gewitter29@lemmy.world 4 points 21 hours ago

I will buy 128 gigs of ddr5 ram come and take that sam

Is it terrible then that I have a kitchen instead of buying all my food from McDonald's?

[-] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 4 points 21 hours ago

If you ask their execs... They'd probably say "yes" and somehow lobby to remove kitchens from new home builds. Lol

there are other options....

It's quite terrible his body has water.

[-] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 64 points 2 days ago

I think Scam Altman has gotten high on his own supply. He doesn't even realize the nonsense he spews out anymore.

I think it's terrible that there's a tree out there producing air that this bastard is wasting.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Don't worry, he's working on a method of bottling and distributing air for purchase, so that you can have fresh air in your home or community!

He's partnered with Aloysius O'Hare on it.

(This is a joke. It's a reference to The Lorax by Dr. Seuss)

We should make looting data centers a religion.

[-] krashmo@lemmy.world 26 points 2 days ago

Tell us what to do, oh great leader

[-] melsaskca@lemmy.ca 12 points 1 day ago

Does this guy think his audience is full of impressionable 3-year olds?

[-] dephyre@lemmy.world 78 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

C'mon guys, the way you use your ovens is like really inefficient.

Stop buying ovens, let us buy all the ovens. Then whenever you need to cook something come get it from my restaurant instead.

[-] FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 46 points 2 days ago

I truly hate this motherfucker.

[-] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 2 points 21 hours ago

Him and Mister Beast really out here competing for "Most Soulless, Roundhouse-Kickable Face."

[-] skozzii@lemmy.ca 43 points 2 days ago

I have 96gb of ram in my pc for no real reason,I hope he loses sleep over this.

[-] MonkeMischief@lemmy.today 3 points 21 hours ago

64 here. It was for large Blender scenes but retroactively I'm happy to say it was just to piss him off.

[-] Zephorah@discuss.online 54 points 2 days ago

Good job, Lemmy. We all had this end game nailed down well before he admitted it.

[-] yonderbarn@lazysoci.al 4 points 1 day ago

This reminds me of the bullshit EA cult ideology.

[-] MyOpinion@lemmy.today 33 points 2 days ago

Well it's quite terrible for the world to have Sam Altman, but here we are.

[-] Pratai@piefed.ca 17 points 2 days ago

Every day these assholes are around brings us closer to floating in tanks as batteries to feed their vision.

[-] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 day ago

He's not wrong, just completely fucking tonedeaf.

Ok, yea, sure, from a resource allocation perspective, it does make the most sense to centralize power. Having one giant system running at 80% is more efficient than having a thousand small systems running at 20%. This is why we virtualize servers.

The problem is, we want and need our RAM for more things than having conversations with your "brain"-washed hallucinating spy-bots.

Yes one centeralized system running php is the way to go.

[-] JustVik@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 day ago

Only lisp on one centralized gigant lisp-machine.

CPU capabilities are more powerful today than ever. They think it's terrible that you have that power without getting it through them.
