I think little Timmy would notice a 60lb CRT behemoth in his little plastic pumpkin......

[-] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 day ago

If my kid came home with a high quality triniton, I'd be so happy.

Someone dumped a CRT on the bike path I take to work, and I strongly considered strapping it on the back of my bike but a 60 lb TV is pushing the weight limit of my ebike and it seemed miserable to try to ride four miles with that thing.

We used to get even worse propaganda in the 80s.

One house would give out creationist pamphlets with comics about evolved monkeys and Christian bullshit.

The problem was they were in the same area as one of the full sized candy bar houses, and we could never remember which was which, so they got us multiple years.

Cathode ray tubes? Someone help out a non-American

[-] phar@lemmy.world 43 points 3 days ago

I am an american and I came in to ask the same thing

[-] ickplant@lemmy.world 46 points 3 days ago

It’s critical race theory.

It educates people on the existence of systemic racism.

[-] ShinkanTrain@lemmy.ml 5 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

It's when schools teach that slavery was bad and had consequences. This upsets some people.

[-] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

It's a framework of analysis focused on systemic racism, especially in law. Despite it being a high level university course of study there was a panic a few years back that schools were teaching it to young children.

Ha, I just assumed it was an intentional typo for HRT

[-] alcoholicorn@lemmy.ml 13 points 2 days ago

Yeah, the kid eats it and suddenly realizes there's a 60 lb block of glass and high voltage electronics in his stomach. Real sick shit.

[-] Ariselas@piefed.ca 6 points 2 days ago

Don't you know, the Golden Girls were woke!

[-] braindead_hottie@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

CRT? Like the televisions? If so then yes please give me one ASAP.

[-] Ledivin@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago

Good luck fitting one of those in a fucking pillowcase

[-] thatradomguy@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago

If somebody slips in the Epstein Files, then by all means.

[-] TheMuffinMan@piefed.world 30 points 2 days ago

I’m glad pretty much every other comment interpreted CRT the way I did. Getting one of those from trick or treating would be the ultimate haul.

[-] lichtmetzger@discuss.tchncs.de 2 points 2 days ago

Especially a Trinitron.

[-] djdarren@piefed.social 6 points 2 days ago

My Gamecube would love it.

Maybe in the early-to-mid 2000s; people couldn’t GIVE them away!

Nowadays, not even the most bougie neighbourhoods could afford to…

[-] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 1 day ago

My wife made me get rid of my triple CRT setup in the mid 2000s. I was only able to sell one of them, for way less than it was worth IMO, the rest I found a place that took them for free eventually. It was shockingly hard to get rid of them.

I wish I still had one.

[-] thatOneGuy@aussie.zone 1 points 21 hours ago

Dude, same (well - I only had one, but yeah).

I held off for as long as I could, but eventually went from a 15in Sony Trinitron monitor to a Dell W2405 - which at the time was actually not a bad decision, but I do wish I kept that CRT.

[-] zod000@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 11 hours ago

I went from 3 21" Trinitrons to a 20" BenQ as that was what I could afford at the time. It was a massive drop in screen resolution for me, but it did make my office so much less hot. Those CRTs were like space heaters.

[-] ChaoticNeutralCzech@feddit.org 4 points 2 days ago

The smallest ones do fit into some big candy wrappers

[-] JoMiran@lemmy.ml 24 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

My mom caught some old man trying to sneak universal healthcare in my treat bag. Damned creepy Bernie.

It’s 2 gifs in one. Trump was near a bald eagle and got scared when it moved toward him.

[-] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 12 points 2 days ago

in the other gif, bernie is trying to scare a hamburger

[-] _stranger_@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago

That eagle missed a chance to make an epic gif.

[-] wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 points 2 days ago

That's funny

[-] wreckedcarzz@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago

That would be a big fucking piece of candy to fit a crt monitor

GIVE

You only get the bare tube

[-] crystalmathadept@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

I found a satanic trans-furry republican in my kids candy. It looked me in the eyes and said “eat a queer fetus for Jesus”

Thanks J’Biden

[-] LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 16 points 3 days ago

Liars! They keep promising cool stuff in Halloween candy, but all I ever get is candy!! >:(

[-] Blackfeathr@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

Yeah where are all the drugs I was promised!

[-] PetDinosaurs@lemmy.world 14 points 2 days ago

I remember my mom going through my candy looking for razor blades or whatever.

We also had to keep our animals inside because they might be stolen for satanic rituals.

[-] PetDinosaurs@lemmy.world 8 points 2 days ago

Tbf, not as bad as getting raisins or a toothbrush.

[-] rmuk@feddit.uk 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

A friend of mine lives in Vermont. He told me about a house that used to give our little black-and-white comics full of Republican-flavour Christian propaganda that were so bad he actually thought they were parody. But, yeah, fuck all that shit. If it doesn't make your spit hurt, what's the point?

[-] PetDinosaurs@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Chick tracts!

[-] BagOfHeavyStones@piefed.social 5 points 2 days ago

God damn Trinitrons. Get your own tree fiddy.

[-] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago
[-] uriel238@lemmy.blahaj.zone 1 points 2 days ago

In the 70s, it just wasn't Hallowe'en if you didn't get a Chick tract in your candy haul.
