The government has announced it plans to urgently repeal legislation which would have required Inland Revenue to report on the tax system's equity, efficiency and certainty.

If it's so urgent because the report is due. Surely it's largely been written and the resources already spent?

I suspect the government doesn't want the report released.

By passing this under urgency, the report can just be thrown in the bin.

Hard evidence that ~~it~~ the tax system is fundamentally inequitable is anathema to top tier tax breaks.

Surely IRD are closing this week for Christmas, so such a big report would have to be done by now.

Maybe they didn't do it because the minister told them not to bother, they'll take care of it.
