"The Office universe", really?

[–] bigbadmoose@lemmy.world 6 points 10 months ago

It's gonna be a multiverse by the time they are done

Just move on to another thing. We don't need more of The Office. If you've got more stories to tell, just create a new sitcom and tell them there.

By "exploring ideas" you mean watching good British shows and remaking them.

As long as Mindy isn't involved it might be ok.

Her last... Complete fucking disaster might suggest she has jumped the shark

I realize the cool thing is to ignorantly shit on Mindy Kaling for her involvement in that show and use it as an excuse to insist she’s talentless, but you do realize she was just an actor on Velma? No writing or directing credits. So does she really deserve to lose all goodwill from the office just because of that? Or are you just continuing the circlejerk?

Oh I stand corrected.

I legit thought it was her project, and she was the one who decided the direction etc.

She was executive producer. But I do agree that the reception of that series does not mean she's talentless. Her previous track record shows that she had talent.

I thought “executive producer” just meant they contributed money to the making of the project and they get the credit for it? I had always heard the show runners were the producers.

It varies.

Executive producers vary in involvement, responsibility and power. Some executive producers have hands-on control over every aspect of production, some supervise the producers of a project, while others are involved in name only.

Regardless, in this case, wouldn't you think that if she had financed and starred in the show, that she have at least some creative control?

I don’t know. It’s possible but it does look like Mindy Kaling’s production company is one of the companies involved in the show and from your link:

As in film, executive producer credits in television are also commonly applied to individuals who are involved in the production in a more hands-off capacity, such as the owner of the show's production company.

It does look like the show was created and developed by Charlie Grandy and articles seem to refer to him as the showrunner.

Additionally she did write on Veep and she was allegedly integral to some of The Office's most popular episodes

Imo her hate is pretty unwarranted

Ironic that her brother faked being black to get into med school while she plays the race card in everything she does.

Why do you know so much about these people?

[–] soviettaters@lemm.ee 0 points 10 months ago

They've both had their 15 minutes of fame.
