OpenTTD and OpenRCT2 are two of the greatest things ever made. Highly recommended (not responsible for loss of productivity).

Don't forget about FreeCiv!
If you havent you should subscribe to Marcel Vos on youtube. He has like a thousand videos going deep into OpenRCT2
I have not, thanks for that shout out I'll definitely be looking into that!
Even just casually watching a few of his tutorial/mechanics really helped me in this game.
They require you have the source files for the original game, which you can usually get for 1-3 bucks on gog or steam during sales. Totally worth it for this masterpiece.
While steam does work, I'd highly recommend going GOG for the DRM free files
It's a really interesting way to get around co-worker copyright without needing to make your own assets.
Been using Open RCT2 for years. The updated resolution support and scaling is a killer feature, you can play it at 4K perfectly.
The project also added new features and QOL improvements too (giving rollercoaster alternative modes where in the original it could only do XYZ)
Wouldn't be able to go back to the original now that I've tried Open RCT2
There's even a handful of original coasters (hybrid coasters, single rail coasters, and alpine coasters), although you'll only see them in custom scenarios. Still cool that they've added two "modern" coasters that didn't exist when the games first came out (the first two I mentioned).
Oh cool, I had no idea those were there! Feel free to crosspost but I think those communities might already be aware of this project lol
yea I guess it can't hurt lol
Oh man, these fediverse links don’t look inviting if you’re not familiar with these sites. Just saying.
Oh wow. I'm gonna have to check that out later. As a kid i adored that game.
Re: openRCT2: you will need a copy of the original RCT2 in order to play it - it doesn't include the assets due to copyright. The GOG version's assets will work for it if you don't have the disc.
OpenTTD however, has its own custom open replacement assets, so you don't need the original game.
There are instructions out there that indicate the demo version of RCT2 has enough of the source files to work >.> Just throwing that out there.
Oh wow, I played so many hours of that game as a kid. OpenTTD is a thing already so why not this!
I can't let myself play OpenTTD anymore. It runs too big a risk of annihilating my sleep schedule. There's always some city that could really use some bus route optimization.
I couldn't play RCT2 without the ORTC2 mod that lets you put garbage bins and benches everywhere in a single click
Don't remove half the game!
I use it to play on my steam deck which surprisingly is pretty fun on the go.
First thing Monday morning this is going on my work computer!
When I recently got my ultrawide, I thought what's the best game to utilize it? Then I found out this allows the game to support modern screen resolutions, so OpenRCT2 is great!
Hell yeah sweet even available for Linux - thanks for sharing!
OpenRCT2 is such a blast. Marcel Vos got me into it a few years ago.
