No API required. Kinda slow, but just leave it running overnight if you have a lot. Make sure you run it from https://old.reddit.com/u/me/overview

The third party API changes come into effect tomorrow (1/7/2023) so now's a good time to either purge or edit your existing content.

There's still no guarantee that Reddit wont just revert your changes (which they've notably done to a few people so far), but at least editing your comments before you delete your account is one way you can let them know how dogshit their handling of this situation has been.

This thing was as easy as adding it to your bookmark bar on desktop, signing into old.reddit.com and pressing on it.

It's a shame to lose years of great posts and comments but with how poorly Reddit has engaged with the community over this, there's no point sticking around.

Check out PowerDeleteSuite, a Chrome* plugin that can edit/delete posts in a user's history. https://github.com/j0be/PowerDeleteSuite

Just follow the install instructions on the page and let it rip. You can act on or exempt specific subs, act on age, exempt by status, etc. It will also export deleted and modified comments to a CSV for your own use.

I nuked my accounts, editing all comments to "This comment has been deleted in protest of the Reddit API changes of June 2023. Consider visiting Lemmy.world or Kbin.social for an alternative news source."

I'll probably go back in on the 29th or 30th and delete everything before closing the accounts.

  • worked on Chromium for me. Never had success with Firefox, and I don't touch Edge.

There are tools out there that help with this, but the better ones like the one I linked use the API.

I don't know what will happen to them next month, but if you are thinking about it, keep in mind that they may not be around or work like they do today, and you may have to use other more convoluted tools.
