I think peace keepers mostly help train local security forces so locals are helping locals instead of foreign forces telling citizens what to do.

That's what they write down on a piece of paper that they are going to show to the public.

We have seen in afghanistan that they do actual combat operations.

Yep. To kill and die.

Peacekeepers are trigger wires. They act as a casus belli when one of them are killed.

What do you think they do? Do you think they patrol the streets like cops do? Do you think they are building houses and schools? Do you think they are escorting old ladies across the street?

If there is an ongoing hot war you are not sending peacekeepers, you are sending mercenaries. If the war is over why do you need peacekeepers?

Don't let anybody tell you that NZ is not a racist country when this kind of shit goes on in Parliament.

It won't effect it directly but it will make the country as a whole more hostile to him and people like him. Strongers unions will make for a stronger middle class which will make for less people seeking solace in cults. It will also weaken the income disparity and therefore cut off some of his funding.

I mean I agree with you and I’ve already signed the change.org petition, I’m not sure what else I can do.

I mean there is a lot we can do including speaking out whenever possible in every platform available to us but the most powerful and effective thing you can do is to join a union.

throughout history the only force for the benefit of the average person has been unions.

I can’t make much comment about what the Police should do, I don’t really know all the details. Hopefully they get the right people who incited it too.

They won't do anything unless we put pressure on them. Put pressure on your MP to force them to pressure the police.

As I said there was a crowd, people were recording. The assailant was most likely instantly identified and pointed out to the police. The fact that they are supposedly investigating for a week says they aren't going to take this seriously.

I posted a follow up story a couple of days after the event happened.

I agree with your sentiments, but this is nothing new for Brian Tamaki and his cult.

And this is a massive problem. Why is he continue to act like this without any accountability or consequences? This wound is going to continue to fester until we have own eruption of Christian nationalists storming the beehive.

I’m guessing the police have to work through the statements to figure out exactly who to arrest or something?

Really? There is video, there a many witnesses. I am sure the perpetrator was immediately pointed out to the police.

What would you like to discuss about it?

Anything?

Why is this church pushing an anti LGBT agenda? Why do they still qualify as a charity? Why is this kind of violence not resulting in arrests?

A large group of people stormed a library and assaulted a person. Nobody in this place thought this was significant enough to post a link to it and start a discussion.

That says something IMHO.

Should we really base public policy on the 0.01% of the public that can't tolerate something or another?

It's not medication.

Trump is following the footsteps or Orban who followed the footsteps of Erdogan who followed the footsteps Netinyahu who followed the footsteps of Putin.

I have zero doubt Seymour if ever given the power would follow in the same footsteps and assume complete control over the country and stay in power forever.

Once again Winston makes me feel ashamed to be a Kiwi and makes me despise the majority of the country which put people like this in power over our lives.

It's astonishing to me that this violent action by a cult hasn't resulted in any arrests by the police nor any action by the government.

It's also weird that nobody on lemmy.nz felt the story was important enough to post and discuss.

At woolworths anchor butter was almost ten bucks today. Here is a helpful tip. When butter is on sale stock up and freeze it. This will get you going until they go back down in price again.

We know the answer. The current government in NZ also supports Trump and everything he is doing.

The ACT party needs to be completely destroyed at the next election. Anybody who supports them should be relentlessly mocked and humiliated and shamed.

I can't believe this actually happened in our Parliament. What is is this? the 1700s?

This must be embarrassing for Luxon and Winston. They did everything including threaten and bully the island to prevent this and failed miserably.

Former Prime Minister Sir Geoffrey Palmer says David Seymour’s controversial Treaty Principles Bill is damaging the “collective fabric of our nation” and the Government has not followed the correct legislative process in introducing it.

Looks like Peters is getting upset the Cook Islands are about to pen a deal with China.
