It's astonishing to me that this violent action by a cult hasn't resulted in any arrests by the police nor any action by the government.

It's also weird that nobody on lemmy.nz felt the story was important enough to post and discuss.

"We will investigate thoroughly this entire incident and what we find in the investigation will lead us to a conclusion."

It will interesting to see what the conclusion is. If no consequences come of it I think that would effectively send the message that they do find such behaviour acceptable.

As I said there was a crowd, people were recording. The assailant was most likely instantly identified and pointed out to the police. The fact that they are supposedly investigating for a week says they aren't going to take this seriously.

"In my perspective, of course people have a right to protest, but no one has the right to intimidate and use violence against other people."

At what point do these people lose that right?

We know that protest is not their goal, it is disruption.

What would you like to discuss about it? Most people know Brian Tamaki and Destiny Church are scumbags who do scumbag things.

Would love to see their charitable tax status removed (as with most religious institutions), but I'm not holding my breath with the current government.

Anything?

Why is this church pushing an anti LGBT agenda? Why do they still qualify as a charity? Why is this kind of violence not resulting in arrests?

A large group of people stormed a library and assaulted a person. Nobody in this place thought this was significant enough to post a link to it and start a discussion.

That says something IMHO.

To be honest there's very few people posting here, so we can expect not everything is going to be posted. But I don't think there's anyone here that would be a Destiny Church supporter. I mean you posted it and now we're discussing it, I'm not sure why it's an indictment on the few people still active here that it didn't get posted sooner.

I agree with your sentiments, but this is nothing new for Brian Tamaki and his cult. The same issues get brought up everytime they're in the news for something. I would love the Government to cripple them financially, but it seems unlikely to happen so far.

I'm guessing the police have to work through the statements to figure out exactly who to arrest or something?

I posted a follow up story a couple of days after the event happened.

I agree with your sentiments, but this is nothing new for Brian Tamaki and his cult.

And this is a massive problem. Why is he continue to act like this without any accountability or consequences? This wound is going to continue to fester until we have own eruption of Christian nationalists storming the beehive.

Really? There is video, there a many witnesses. I am sure the perpetrator was immediately pointed out to the police.

I mean I agree with you and I've already signed the change.org petition, I'm not sure what else I can do. I don't know anyone who supports Destiny Church or Brian Tamaki. Like I said, I don't think much will change with the current lot in power.

I can't make much comment about what the Police should do, I don't really know all the details. Hopefully they get the right people who incited it too.

I signed it also. These people are a cancer on society.

I mean there is a lot we can do including speaking out whenever possible in every platform available to us but the most powerful and effective thing you can do is to join a union.

throughout history the only force for the benefit of the average person has been unions.

I can’t make much comment about what the Police should do, I don’t really know all the details. Hopefully they get the right people who incited it too.

They won't do anything unless we put pressure on them. Put pressure on your MP to force them to pressure the police.

I think Brian is a festering fuck head.

But I'm curious as to how joining a union would stop him showing up.

[–] BalpeenHammer 2 points 1 day ago

It won't effect it directly but it will make the country as a whole more hostile to him and people like him. Strongers unions will make for a stronger middle class which will make for less people seeking solace in cults. It will also weaken the income disparity and therefore cut off some of his funding.
