There are two reasons to avoid a union:
- Fear of retaliation - Amazon et al.
- Perceived lack of need.
If you are well looked after by your company and are treated fairly, there is no need to create a union.

I was in a similar situation, bought a house with analog cameras. I ended up replacing all the cameras with modern ones, the analog ones were just soo poor quality it wasnt worth keeping them. I went with Unifi, which I am happy with, but anything new and IP based should be better than what you have.
Highly workplace dependant. A workplace with a healthy culture wont have that kind of bullshit. If your co-workers are going to treat you badly just for being new, you probably dont want to work there.
As for nursing specifically, hopefully someone with more experience in that industry can chime in.
Even if covid didnt exist, in a hospital or doctors office masks just make sense. You have no idea what communicable diseases are sitting right next to you, the uncomfortableness of wearing a mask is well worth it to avoid catching some horrible cold.
