There is a valid discussion to be had for software bloat, but 1.5mb isnt huge by any measure. Plenty of binaries can and do exceed that without being "poorly coded".

This will be a good starting point:

(Although it was her husband who discovered uranium's radioactivity)

In general, using cloud stuff for smart home is just a poor experience anyway (latency, outages, etc), so many avoid it already.

Edit: agree with other reply, just buy esp32 based sensors from Ali.

No one slopping up a GTA clone is gonna be maintaining it. They would just slop up a new one.

This is offensive to leeches.

isn’t tied to a single point of failure that affects half the internet. Our secret? We use bunny.net to serve our static content.

So instead of cloudflare, bunny.net is their single point of failure? Diversity is important here, and the over-reliance on cloudflare is a problem, but they haven't solved anything.

Its networking is a bit hard to tweak, but I also dont find I need to most of the time. And when I do, its usually just setting the network to host and calling it done.

Are you using docker compose scripts? Backup should be easy, you have your compose scripts to configure the containers, then the scripts can easily be commited somewhere or backed up.

Data should be volume mounted into the container, and then the host disk can be backed up.

The only app that I've had to fight docker on is Seafile, and even that works quite well now.

I'll stick with git commit . -m "stuff" /s

I cant speak to that brand specifically, but the USB ethernet adapters I have used are super unreliable. I have had 2 burn out randomly (out of 3). So it might not be as redundant as you would like.

If your doing android work, you'll be running Android studio and likely an emulator. Both love ram. Get 16gb if you can afford it. I believe many newer laptops are going with unupgradable ram, you'll need to check the specific laptop carefully.

Cores will also be loved by Android studio and the emulator.

Check the video out put options as well, you'll likely want an external monitor at some point, the benefits of dual (and triple) monitors can't be overstated.

If your concerned about cost, maybe look for second hand stuff? But lots of cores and lots of RAM will be worth it in the long run.
