Man, what a life you led, sorry you had to live through that. I guess persistence is the way to go, and I will persist, while I do have suicidal thoughts, I don't have it in me to actually go through with it. It's just so annoying that there's no actual solution, I could be doing so much more, for myself, for my family, and yet I have no strength or will. I'd love for my son to be able to live life instead of just persisting.

Stuck on manual (lemmy.world)

Hey depressed folks!

I have been diagnosed with depression about eight years ago, I'm in my third depressive episode that lasted about two years now. I'm in therapy since the start and medicated on four different drugs. The main thing I'm struggling with is the inability to do anything without forcing myself to do it, it feels like I'm stuck on manual. Getting up in the morning, making breakfast, taking care of my son, going for a walk, working, even hobbies. Gaming seems to be the only thing that lets me turn off my brain, with some pangs of "I'm wasting my time" echoing in my head. I've also been stuck overweight for a few years now, I can't control my appetite, I've tried everything between intermittent fasting and working with a dietetician and a personal trainer.

With all this I have to say my life isn't a struggle, I have a loving wife, a beautiful son, I'm earning enough to support my family, I live in a nice apartment, I've got pretty much everything I need. And yet it's all meaningless in the face of The Depression^TM^.

I don't really know why I'm writing this down, I don't expect anyone to come up with a solution here. I guess you can just join me in complaining about being a prisoner of your own mind.

All the best, Cheery

Yeah, I just hope I can cope with different better, it's mostly the rut I'm stuck in that's doing me in.

Thanks, especially that last part, I feel like I have to be a good parent and keep growing like I did before being a parent.

Thanks! It's great to see how much my son's grown already and he's still got so much to experience, definitely worth documenting that.

I plan to love them no matter what, even if they will blame me for everything. Thanks, I'm doing better with time.

Fixed the title, thanks! Hopefully the emotional support will be easier thanks to years of psychotherapy, but I'll take your suggestions to heart. Glad to know there's some easier times ahead.

Hey Lemmy!

I'm a dad to a two year old boy. He's very energetic and needs quite a bit of supervision. Other than that I couldn't wish for a better son. I'd like to preface my actual question with saying I want to be a parent and I wouldn't change that given the possibility.

The question is, does it get any easier? I have been stuck in a loop of wake up, take care of breakfast and other preparations, go to work, go back to parenting and maybe two hours of rest after the kid falls asleep. It feels like I don't rest enough. I will however add that I've struggled with depression for the better part of a decade, I'm still pretty heavily medicated and in therapy. I'm much better than I was a few years ago, but the feeling of tiredness and lack of strength to be the best parent I can is at times getting the better of me.

I'm fully aware I put myself in this situation and I'm not sure I'd be happier with no kids. I guess I'm just looking for other people's stories of when they were in similar situations or simply some words of encouragement.

Thanks.

I think they misspelled the word thing. There doesn't seem to be a problem, both parties want the same thing, though one wasn't aware the thing is already happening. Judging by the chat bubbles the poster is the one "behind" in their relationship. Hope that clears that up.
