I'm absolutely glad that I watched this film. It's so lovely to see Sally Fields. And Chief Miles O'Brien to boot! (Erm, I mean Colm Meaney.)

The story was exactly what my heart needed, especially in these days where everything seems to be soul crushing. Sure, there was some mild suspension of disbelief, but it was worth it, however improbable.

Remarkably Bright Creatures is a 2026 American mystery drama film directed by Olivia Newman, who co-wrote the film with screenwriter John Whittington. It is an adaptation of the 2022 novel Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt. The film stars Sally Field, Lewis Pullman, Joan Chen, Kathy Baker, Beth Grant, Sofia Black-D'Elia, and Colm Meaney, with Alfred Molina providing the voice of Marcellus the octopus.

Elderly cleaner Tova Sullivan takes the young drifter Cameron under her wing, with their deepening connection being observed and solidified by a giant Pacific octopus.

Just finished and, oh my goodness, did we love it. The "hero" this season is such a great, great guy. Who ever screened for him did an amazing job choosing him. And the improve actors were all exceedingly excellent.

The ending of the show was so heartwarming. I was filled with so much happiness and happy tears because of how wonderful of a dynamic they all built. There's nothing like surrounding yourself with the right people in your life.

And icing on the cake, there's a behind the scenes show with 10 episodes that brings back the hero from the first season, actor James Marsden, and everyone else as they talk about how they did this all, the fallout, Anthony and Ronald getting to have time together, and etc. I'm sure it'll be a fun watch too.

What law of the universe determines that the moment you try to be quiet, you are then encumbered by an unseen force that attracts you to every hard surface in the room?

Seriously, it's like trying to be quiet causes some sort of phenomena where you unavoidably trip on things, kick the foot of the bed, or drop things.

Extra points if told from the perspective of a children's book writer.

I checked my Pixelfed messages today and see this. I've literally no idea what the first half means, so I asked my daughter to translate the acronyms. No idea what "no disrespect" is conveying.

I never really thought of pixelfed as a place for spam or scammers. If the intent is genuine, then I'm even more perplexed by how they are choosing communicating. I'm not going to respond because it feels off, so yeah...

Perhaps I'm just showing my age?

I really enjoy Clancy's Hot Chili Lime Potato Chips. Sadly, I don't think it exists anymore. Maybe I was the only one eating them. 🤣

This post is really me fishing for what other people find interesting because I need a new thing. 💜

What are some daily little ingrained habits that you have? The kind of things that are automatic, ritualistic, and usually without much thought.

I keep a tube of chapstick with me all the time and apply it a few times a day without much thought. I only really notice when I happen to misplace it or run out. In those cases, I'll feel a bit off that day.

P.S. The balm also works great as a lotion backup. Like when a child of mine complains about their dry, cracked knuckles in the winter. I suppose some people might find that weird, but it's pretty common for me to MacGyver solutions.

Two bird learnings for today. I've had trouble identifying a couple of birds for a long while. Using a telephoto lens really helped.

1. There's a variety of little birds that have thrown me off for some time. I could never quite pin them down until today, when I finally got a good look at the back of their heads and realized they were Ruby-crowned Kinglets! I never had binos or a good lens on hand when I see them and, without the red crown flaring, I missed the subtle red dot. Mystery solved! (I'll include a meh photo I took today that shows the elusive red spot).

2. Turns out those dark little birds have been Dark-eyed Junco all along. I had presumed they would be larger, which I need to stop doing for birds. I was also getting confused by their variety in color. Thanks to their pink beaks and song, I think I finally have them down now. Another mystery solved.

Any idea why it is that my PixelFed posts aren't federating properly to my Mastodon instance? I understand that posts should be visible, but it's inconsistent.

I am following my pixelfed account from my masto. I'm not yet following anyone else from masto itself. Perhaps it's related to following, but random pixelfed.social accounts seem to be fully accessible from my mastodon account when I try them.

Anyway, the inconsistency makes it challenging for me to figure out if the problem is with pixelfed.social federating out or if it's a problem with universeodon.com receiving posts.
