Okay, I don't think people would call purple bacteria algae, it is a bit more complex, algae are basically cyanobacteria and eukaryotes with plastids except land plants.

I mean, all eukaryotes are Asgardarchaeota ¯\(ツ)

Single-celled is physiological description, though. But I like OPs point. We have a lot of "some group except" categories. Algae (photosynthesizers except land plants), fish (vertebrates except tetrapods), some definitions of protists (eukaryotes except animals, land plants, and fungi). Practically, we use dinosaurs for the long (>65mya) extinct lineages of the clade that also includes birds. But we don't have another name for the clade, so the point is lost.

Diplococcus, diplodocus

So trippy! Awesome footage, thank you!

You should crosspost it to c/AntiMeme

Yup, we're stupid, but at least we have the metric system ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Infinitesimal calculus motherfucker, do you speak it?

Hypothesis supported -> publish results -> do a little dance -> make a little love -> get down tonight

That's the most cryptic description of the peer review process I've ever read.

Hypothesis seems supported -> Write a draft -> Get your hopes high -> Get fucked by reviewers discrediting your entire field -> Feel down after getting the paper out in 10th round of reviews in the the 5th journal you submitted to

And that's too much in brief, anyway

Lol, since when do bureaucratic approvals produce consistent outcomes?

[–] KTJ_microbes@mander.xyz 6 points 9 months ago

LOL how about horizontal gene transfer, and Eukaryotes being a merger of Alphaproteobacteria (and cyanobacteria for the photosynthesizing ones) and Asgard Archea.

It's all interconnected, intertwined, nature man! Holobionts and shit.

Or, to express it differently: Thanks for digging through the mud to share diamonds with us :*

I took this photo (and the sample) in the Adriatic Sea (Mljet, Croatia) on June 10th this year. The dinoflagellates I can identify to the genus. They are Tripos - correct me if I am wrong.

But I am not that good with animals. What is this thing on the left-hand side?
