I can’t remember having Thanksgiving without Shoofly pie. This must be a regional thing.

An apparent example of accidental lifecasting, the hole was described by The New York Times as "Chicago's Stonehenge".[2] Some neighbors and wildlife experts speculated that the impression was made by a squirrel rather than a rat, which was confirmed by a 2025 research paper.[3]

The only thing I (unwillingly) skipped was the potato chips. It’s hard to tell from the picture but my small salty pretzel 🥨 is there, LOL.

I was pleasantly surprised when I received a box of these cookies from Panera – they were delicious so I had to try and make them.

Where Does the Name Come From?

Kitchen sink cookies are a play on the phrase “everything but the kitchen sink.” The idea is that the cookies are packed with everything you could think of, be it salty, sweet, or anything in between. When packed with mix-ins that hit all those different flavor notes, the resulting cookies deliver big time on flavor and texture.

We made these cookies without the potato chips because the kids ate them… thinking the chips were theirs!

Shoofly pie is a type of American pie made with molasses associated with Pennsylvania Dutch cuisine. While shoo-fly pie has been a staple of Moravian, Mennonite, and Amish foodways, there is scant evidence concerning its origins, and most of the folktales concerning the pie are apocryphal, including the persistent legend that the name comes from flies being attracted to the sweet filling.[1]
