No way am I clicking that link. 😣
The cruelty is the point
Oh yeah Wong's attitude regarding Israel has been despicable. What really did it for me was her response to Payman crossing the floor. Using the fact that she as a lesbian went for so long voting against marriage equality as a justification for Payman not being entitled to vote for (a) Labor's own official policy, and (b) her own basic human rights. Like bruh, Penny. Haven't you seen Moo Moo, S04E16 of Brooklyn Nine Nine? The response of those in power who have experienced hardship shouldn't be to tell juniors to also put up with hardship. It should be too change the system so that they don't have to put up with it in the future. Be better.
But I wasn't speaking about my personal opinion of her. Rather, of her prominence within the party and wider public.
Are they? I feel like Plibersek has been mooted as the natural successor for quite a while. I honestly can't think of anyone in Labor who would be a more natural next leader than her. She's been kinda sidelined by Albanese, but her history puts her in a good spot.
The only other names I can think of are Bowen and Chalmers. I would add Penny Wong, but being from the Senate is a significant barrier for her.

Historia Civilis is fucking fantastic. Like I cannot express just how incredible their series on the Roman Republic was. They use these little squares that move around to show events, but the animation includes little wiggles and movements that give so much character. The storytelling is amazing, giving you such an incredible idea of the personalities and motivations of everyone involved, but not at the expense of accurately conveying history—they'll often have an aside where they explain differing sources' opinions or why they portrayed something that way. The impact of seeing some of the characters making their fatal choices, especially towards the end of the series, hit me just as hard as in some of the very best fiction movies or books have. Maybe even harder, thanks to knowing it was real, and the dramatic irony of knowing the outcome ahead of time.
It looks to me like the general feeling online is that this is great. People are happy with it.
Personally, I feel differently. Had the initial action of Paizo been doing this, we'd have been outraged. It only appears good because Paizo first threatened to do so much worse. Imagine someone threatening to cut off your arm then changing their mind and saying "oh no, you can keep your arm, I'm just going to take a couple of fingers." And then you thank them for it!
This statement:
- Still removes the art from AoN
- Gives some vague promise about putting some of the art back in the community use policy "soon"
- Gives AoN early access to PDFs, but significantly less early than they used to get (presumably, Demiplane is still getting the much earlier time)—AoN seems to claim this will lead to "minimal delays", an implicit admission that supporting things on the date of release will no longer be possible
- Does not involve an apology or admission of culpability from Paizo
So sorry, but this fails to work for me.
That doesn't come across as apologia to me at all. It really all just echoes my own thoughts on the issue. Paizo is desperate, and they're trying desperately to do things to make money, without properly thinking through the consequences of it. And they're making irrational decisions on the basis of data that doesn't capture the complete picture.
Longer term, I honestly think they would benefit greatly from moving out of the US. The kind of fraudulent behaviour from Diamond and JP Morgan would be far less likely to fly in a court in a civilised country. They're already a company that treats their workers at a standard that is far greater than is normal in America, so it really wouldn't be that big a shift for them, in terms of culture, to move to Canada or Australia.

Oh holy shit. My whole instance is on there.
Did Tesseract block things for users using that front end, or does having it installed somehow prevent federation from occurring/users on lemmy-ui seeing your posts?
