Please keep the discussion polite, and don't get too much carried away into trying to convince others of your own ideas. Exchange is less than that. And sometimes, less is more. Thanks in advance.

Perhaps you may want to diversify on those that are feeding propaganda to you ;)

Not exactly sure of what "dominating" a market means, but the title is on a good point: innovation requires much more cooperation than competition. And the 'AI race' between nations is an antiquated mainframe pushed by media.

Actshually... we call them billionaires after their first billion, but many have more than just 1 billion. Btw, until recently I didn't really knew how different is a billion from a million... For the record, 1M seconds is about 11 days. Meanwhile, 1B seconds is about 31 years. I think this helps to get a sense of the scale.

First post was fun. The pedantic conversation not so much, only a little because the one that comes correcting then it's shown to be wrong.

Syncthing. Look no further, just check the "untrusted device" so that you don't give unencrypted data to your friend's disk.

The musicians of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra have sensationally passed a vote of no confidence in their senior management, after an acclaimed pianist was removed from a performance because he spoke in support of journalists who died in Gaza.

“We believe it is the duty of senior management to lead and manage in accordance with the MSO’s Values and Behaviours, however it has become apparent that these values no longer appear to be aligned with those of the Orchestra and staff,” the letter read.

At a concert on Sunday, Jayson Gillham dedicated a solo to journalists in Gaza — then had his following concert on Thursday cancelled.

… "The first of two versions of the RayV Lite will focus on laser fault injection (LFI). This technique uses a brief blast of light to interfere with the charges of a processor’s transistors, which could flip them from a 0 value to a 1 value or vice versa. Using LFI, Beaumont and Trowell have been able to pull off things like bypassing the security check in an automotive chip’s firmware or bypassing the PIN verification for a cryptocurrency hardware wallet.

The second version of the tool will be able to perform laser logic state imaging. This allows snooping on what’s happening inside a chip as it operates, potentially pulling out hints about the data and code it’s handling. Since this data could include sensitive secrets, LSI is another dangerous form of hacking that Beaumont and Trowell hope to raise awareness of." …

Barcelona, Venice and Amsterdam are among Europe's favourite travel destinations and benefit greatly from tourism. However, the massive influx of visitors places a considerable burden on the cities and their inhabitants.

To counteract the negative effects of overtourism, these cities are taking decisive action. Following public protests, no new hotels may be built in Venice and cruise ships will have to use other moorings in future. Amsterdam has banned guided tours of its famous red light district in order to protect local residents. Paris is planning to ban coaches from the city centre in order to improve the quality of life. Other overcrowded cities are also trying to control the situation through various methods.

Do you think that overtourism is a serious problem in Europe?

Oh, government email domain would scare anyone off. It's as bad as a "fbi.com" address. I doubt the permission is really there as the post says, what I have seen is the contrary. Anyway, try with a regular email address. If you want, as background story, say you're a student in a third-world country. That's how I lived before Sci-Hub (via VPN) and it worked out most of the time (e.g. ~75% success rate).

Sci-Hub was the most similar exploitation of such "situation"

Great for you. To me is not so much a matter as to how much time but the timing. After all, you could as well be reading the most elevated book saga. On the contrary, there's the addiction of doomscrolling.. I have seen friends scrolling posts on social media even while on a pizza night surrounded by others. Or trying to have chat conversations with potential dating partners instead of an actual phone call. That's the kind of thing I believe is troublesome, the lack of "here and now" awareness. And something similar goes to the constant checking. For example, if you or anyone uses their phone 4 hours in total, I'd say it's better if that's on bigger chunks than if it's just a millon of small distractions throughout the day hindering many other activities.

Also, the number of seeds are a good measure for popularity of media that one might not had in their radar at all. Meanwhile, platforms try to push all sort of content only because they produced it, recommendation algorithms are needed (and insufficient), because there a huge load of crap being produced at such a high rate...
