We just added a couple more people to have server access and ideally that situation wont happen again

That problem specifially could only be reproduced on the main server so fixes couldnt be tested without taking the entire site down and at some point after the 0.19.5 upgrade (when the issue happened) it became too late to roll the server back since there was too many activities that came in but if it happens again after an upgrade we would roll back pretty much instantly)

dbzer0 does seem like a better option for general privacy discussion though

which firefox, stable beta or nightly

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Theres been a bunch of activity and people joining in in the dev matrix already

Backend pretty much already has parity and the frontend is currently the main thing that an updated demo is waiting on but should be ready really soon

I've been designing an updated home page recently for it that I'll be pushing out this week that looks miles better than lemmy-ui since I could do everything from scratch and thus quickly

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Would be a bit of work to connect up the logins of the two softwares since they both handle people and logins differently. So probably not something supported on release but I can try to see if I can do something

And yeah I can recommend 2fa somewhere

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

yeah people who have been here for longer might have not accurate stats to only the year since I cant get an actual year range of the things I request

itll pull from your entire lemmy history but for most people that will be within the last year

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yeah sure I can push out a quick update to do that

edit: done. Also tweaked weights a bit since adventurer was way too common

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Yeah setting that to monospace so browser determines it. Should just be two lines, one for each theme

Pull request maybe coming late tomorrow and then it'll probably be in 0.19.2

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 2 years ago

with that there would need some way for people to have things to initially review to get the community started. Could do something like after the first 3 posts the point system goes into effect

"No connection to the Voyager app, it's a staging environment for Lemmy named re: Star Trek". Theyre saying its a staging area for lemmy itself not voyager

its named after the tv series star trek voyager. theres also enterprise.lemmy.ml named after star trek enterprise

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

The core dev of said software put it in a position where it can be forked at any time. If they decide to go crazy in the future and affect how we use the platform were just going to make a fork here and then continue on that. Until then there's just a separation of the developer and the software

(Especially since this is a community for discussing the software due to being c/rust/)

Theres also way more contributors than just dessalines and nutomic for things relating to lemmy now after the wave of people from reddit

[-] Ategon@programming.dev 3 points 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago)

yep, I just made one today. Just make the first word !remindme or @remindme, or mention @RemindMe@programming.dev and then it should work

Hey everyone! Ive made a third bot for the instance called Linker. This bot will automatically detect when you try to reference a certain community and then give both relative and direct links to it in a comment for people to check out.

The usual syntax when you want to reference a community is communityname@programming.dev with communityname replaced by the community name and programming.dev replaced with the instance the community is in

It will also detect when you link a community like this https://programming.dev/c/programming

Works for both posts and comments but will only handle communities that have been entered in the bot. To start with I've put in the top 50 most active communities in the instance but will put the rest in soon

If you have any suggestions for communities to link in on other instances let me know

Now that people have settled in a bit into the instance and we have over 100 communities created I've created a new community that new community requests are going to be moved into rather than the pinned thread

Feel free to post community ideas in there and they will be considered to be added once they hit 7 points from upvotes

You can also request to take over communities that have inactive mods there

You can find the it using these links:

edit: if anyone stumbles onto this community creation has since been opened up and you can create one from the navbar

Community Icon Poll (strawpoll.com)
submitted 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago) by Ategon@programming.dev to c/meta@programming.dev

Edit: This link is outdated, see new poll here https://programming.dev/post/190520

Hey everyone

Wanted to run a poll about the community icons to choose between a couple options

Option 1 - Use UBP icons - Use unified icons for all of the communities similar to beehaw

Option 2 - Use UBP for general communities and specific language, etc. icons for specific communities

Option 3 - Dont use UBP icons

Vote using the strawpoll here (doing strawpoll so it can be ranked voting) [removed in favor of new post]

EDIT: I have remade the poll with two more options. If you voted in the previous one please vote again in this. The new options are just for adding different colored gradients to the unified icons for different communities

Quick example of this:

New Community Icons (programming.dev)
submitted 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago) by Ategon@programming.dev to c/meta@programming.dev

Ive been working on some unified icons for the instance so the icons feel like they belong together

Let me know if you like them or if there's some adjustments I should make

Some examples from ones I've done

The majority of them are generated from https://game-icons.net/ with the settings of foreground being shrunk twice and position being x:2 y:2. Foreground color is diagonal from 2EE5D2 to A01FC5. And has a shadow with color 423025 and blur set to 15. The background color is just black

Hey everyone, I've just finished up my second bot in the instance after Frank my thread posting bot. This one is called Mega and is just used to auto post any new posts that come up from RSS feeds to certain communities.

Currently I just have it set up in the Godot and Unreal communities but if you're modding a community in the instance and want a feed added let me know.

I also have the source code available here if you want to look at it or host a version of it yourself.

Short video where he goes over a couple important things

  • Add an icon to your game
  • Add a splash screen
  • Set the main scene of your project properly
  • Add your game name in the project settings + localizations
  • Make fullscreen the default (most of the time)
  • Add a custom mouse cursor
  • Enable AA if applicable to get rid of jaggies

Frank - Community Bot (programming.dev)
submitted 3 years ago* (last edited 3 years ago) by Ategon@programming.dev to c/meta@programming.dev

Hey everyone! Ive been working on a bot you may see popping up in the communities I manage (the gamedev ones). Currently it will just post the daily threads like screenshot saturday, etc. automatically so they always go up and so its feasible to post them in multiple communities

If you want to block messages from the bot so you don't see these daily and weekly threads, you can do so in your user settings by disabling the show bot accounts checkbox. This will hide all bots from your view (You can also block the bot if you only dont want to see stuff from it but you want to see other bots)

If youre modding a community and want a thread posted every week, a daily discussion, or something similar let me know and I can add it to the bot functionality
