nothing major.

we have pretty hard water here, it was killing one of the generic charcoal pitcher filters within a month. the filters in this one haven't had any problems by the time they are scheduled to be replaced.

a couple possibly annoying things:

  • the reservoir is on the back, so it's not great against a wall under cabinets. they have a little cart you can buy explicitly to help with that, but it felt silly so I just put it somewhere else
  • you can't just top up the reservoir, you have to wait for it to finish, dump it out, then refill. annoying when there's just half a tank left. I end up just trying to use an entire pitcher by dumping it into kettle/espresso machine whenever I use any water so reservoir is either entirely full or empty. afaik true of any of them that aren't plumbed in.
  • don't love the fact that I'm locked in to the manufacturers' filters. there don't seem to be any third party ones available if they ever discontinue them

it'd make more sense to have a translation layer on top that generates configs for everything from a consistent language. you're never going to get buyin from enough projects to do it directly.

my system is entirely generated from nix files, 0 handwritten config files. it's json like if you squint, supports comments, but has functions and can be extended to whatever files you need to generate.

I do think there's alternatives in the area, but I don't think any of them are as complete

No, CI validates that the hooks or formatter ran, and fails if not. in theory it shouldn't ever fail but it's to catch the stuff that couldn't have passed the commit hook.

the hooks are easy to turn off and can be hard to get to reliably run (90% of the time they're fine, but all of the tools that run git commands sometimes do weird things), but they're a best effort kind of thing.

unit tests on precommit are a little annoying, especially when it takes that long. that's better suited to running in ci afterwards since there's no advantage to running before you commit. formatter takes like 200ms max for affected files? you won't notice, and it ends up as part of the one commit

all of the jellyfin apps embed vlc as a player though, so the meme would have been vulnerable

you can also have a custom extension list and put whatever on it. that's what I did before they opened it up as much as they have now.

yeah but I'm not going to be able to make a Bambu printer in the US since it is a product produced by a Chinese company. A Voron is different since I can source parts from US based companies and put it together myself in the US.

normally opaque plastics are cheaper since they can include more recycled content

little dark age (album) really just should have been 7 copies of little dark age (song). for some reason I always want more but nothing ever quite fits to follow up

not sure for what purpose you want a tablet, but I had a fujitsu 2 in 1 in college that was pretty solid for linux support. no problems with pen drivers or anything. the screen swiveled around and it folded down into a tablet. it was pretty bulky compared to an android tablet or similar, but it worked well for taking noes and had a full keyboard when I wanted it

yeah that works, it's even the same interface. you just lose out on also making calls and voicemail from web
