Why didn't carnists come up with their own term for themselves? Vegans made up a name for themselves. If carnists come up with a term for carnists and market it, vegans will probably use it.

We have the potential to be. Our big brains let us make ethical choices. Vegans are better than animals, yeah. But you're not. Because you don't use your big brain to make ethical choices. Your choices are what define your goodness, and you don't seem to believe you have a choice.

Drag believes you that animals eat meat, but that's not a good reason for humans to eat meat. That would be an appeal to nature fallacy. Dingos eat babies, but humans shouldn't.

Are you trans? Because a lot of other trans people here "believe it", and if you're not trans, then acting like you know better than the trans community is a dangerous amount of hubris.

No, drag's implying people don't have to do something just because it's natural. Dying of dysentery is natural, but we try to avoid that. That's why your argument that we should eat meat because it's natural is silly

If drag were a troll, you would be an unwitting collaborator, because drag would have tricked you into being transphobic and hating neopronouns. But drag's not a troll, and you're unfairly blaming drag for your hatred what's different. Drag didn't manipulate you into not wanting to learn about trans issues and do better by trans people, you manipulated yourself and convinced yourself that drag was to blame.

A screenshot from Back To The Future. Doc has Marty and his girlfriend in the car, and is saying "GUI? Where we're going, we don't need GUI!"

Ants release chemicals when they die that attract other ants, to fight off the threat. This is annoying, because squishing an ant that bit you is likely to attract more bitey ants.

Do ants have a chemical signal for "all ye who enter here, either turn back or abandon all hope"? Can you teach a hive to fear a certain place? Or do they just keep coming forever?

In a hundred and twenty or thirty years or something, the dollar will have inflated by 1000 times, so a billion dollars then will be equal to a million dollars now. It'll cost a billion dollars for a nice four bedroom house.

But we'll have had a hundred more years to produce anti billionaire propaganda, so a lot of people, especially teenagers, will need it explained to them that being a billionaire isn't so bad now. The Marxist-Leninists will all be saying that Cyborg Bernie Sanders is an evil billionaire, and us reasonable leftists will be explaining that a billion dollars is just what it costs these days to own a residence in your home state and also in DC, which is necessary for working as a senator.

What we'll really need to look out for by then is the trillionaires. Good for nothing parasites. There's no excuse for one person to own a trillion dollars while there are people living on the streets who can't even afford a measly ten thousand dollars for a cheeseburger meal.

The original post by @spujb@lemmy.cafe was a woman wearing a shirt that says "Italians do it better". Someone asked what they do, and drag explained the joke as best as drag understood the intention, though drag disagrees that Luigi killed that CEO. It's not a call for violence, it's an explanation of a joke. Other people interpreted the joke the same way.

Less than an hour later, Flying Squid banned drag for that explanation, and for saying Luigi is not guilty. According to Flying Squid, referencing the CEO shooter case and saying Luigi didn't do it is a call for violence. Expressing support for Luigi Mangione is a bannable offense on LemmyShitpost.

EDIT: The Picard Maneuver responded to drag's appeal and reversed the ban. Drag will be deleting this post as it is no longer relevant to the current state of affairs on Lemmy Shitpost.

Why is negative equity bad? (self.nostupidquestions)

Sometimes drag buys a game on Steam at full price, and then a week later, the game goes on sale. Drag thinks "damn it, drag should have waited". But drag's never that upset, because drag wouldn't have bought the game if it weren't worth the price. Drag failed to save some money, but drag still values the game more than that money, so it's not a big issue.

The concept of negative equity was recently explained to drag, and it sounds like the housing equivalent of that. It happens when the price of housing crashes, but you already have an expensive mortgage out on the house. You still have to pay money worth more than the value of the house. Therefore, your equity, or equivalent share of ownership, is effectively less than zero.

The politician drag was talking to said negative equity is a big problem and it's why we can't just crash the housing market to solve all our cost of living problems. But drag doesn't understand. If you take out a mortgage, you should be able to afford it with your income, and the house should be worth more to you than its market value. Negative equity sounds like a huge bummer, but that politician was talking like it was something life ruining.

Why's negative equity so bad?
