Anyone else finding it weird that its his decision ? I feel that in any other country it would be the government's. Like alright; your firm built the infrastructure, but whether or not this or that country can use it for this or that military application is a foreign policy question so in this instance we say what happens and you just give them the price.

The generalization of the concept of "life" beyond earth-style carbon-based biochemistry is still in active debate. As far as I'm aware, the most consensual definition is the one called "lyfe" (to distinguish from the aforementioned carbon-based chemistry, a concept formulated by Stuart John Bartlett and John L Wong in 2020). It has four characteristics:

• dissipation : the ability to use/convert energy sources (arguably a thing that stars do)
• autocatalysis : the ability to grow exponentually (I guess you could argue it happens during the initial star formation before it reaches an equilibrium... Maybe)
• homeostasis : the ability to compensate for small disturbances in environment (unclear to me what those disturbances and what this adaptation would be in the case of stars)
• learning : the ability to record, process and adapt to information (no such thing in stars as far as I know)

The kind of AI you're talking about that could replace human labour to the point of making something like a post-scarcity society happen isn't even on the horizon, and I don't believe the llm hype has any chance of leading to it at any point. But even if it were the case, imo there's no scenario where capitalist societies transition to a post-scarcity utopia where human labor is replaced by machine labor through technological innovation.

The 19th and 20th centuries are a history of human labor being displaced rather than replaced by innovation. People are made obsolete in their own jobs, but the fundamental threat of "work or starve" remains structural. So people who are older, already specialized and who can't easily change occupations become atrociously poor or straight up die, and younger people find and invest their formative years in new ways to work, producing stuff that's not yet automated.

So before you can even think about a post-scarcity utopia you need something like ubi and a socialist organization where people who get innovated out of their jobs can still live, but if you have that kind of society I think it would naturally orient itself toward degrowth and production of what is needed through human labor, rather than the kind of overproduction frenzy necessary for everyone's labor to be continuously replaced with metal and silicium.

I think so, yeah. It was professionally and personally more acceptable to be early/early than late/late. Also if I get anything wrong in my personal life I'd rather be 1h early than 1h late.

Doctors say it's the wrong one, but my conspiracy theory is that when they do they don't really account for the fact that the 9-5 rhythm is what's actually bullshit rather than the correlation between then number on your phone and the sunlight, and they also say that a regular rhythm is what's really important so I did it this way because it was easier, and if society ever becomes sane I'll resynchronize with it then.

Edit: I did say "non-dst time zone," but I only meant a time zone without automatic DST shifts for my computer. In real life I never remember which one is DST and which one isn't ; in my country they call it summer/winter time.
