I keep thinking about the my aye-dunno world/story and so am starting a second part to add on to it, but also want to go back and redo all the pictures to a new style - maybe this one. I did the first part when trying out digital stuff and just wanted something quick to draw. This style I find more pleasant but I fumble on clarity of composition when I try to do it as fast as I did the more simplistic thing as below.

If unclear the main image is a christmas beetle using a ghostgum club to attempt to clobber an octopus hiding in the eucalyptus flowers. not sure how easily it reads as that, I could probably have posed the beetle better (still trying to not sacrifice too much time)

Stuck inside a spacesuit, with no person to help left on the world to which it returned.

Why is that? For the snazzy glasses? Whenever it comes to character creation in a video game I almost always make a ponytail dude - I like to see how the game handles the physics of it.

The thing is here: Dialogues in Aye-Dunno

It is about an octopus and a dragonfly taking a pleasant walk together, any creeping dread or sense of hidden secrets as you read is totally in your imagination.

Should take less than an hour to read. You can also just skim the pics if you like.

This was an exercise in learning some digital drawing basics so the illustrations are a bit amateurish. Also experimentally copying some writing styles of authors I like, hopefully it lands right.

Though I did became a bit smitten with the underlying physics and history of the world in the story. I'd like to make something proper of it in the future.

These are all great questions, and in trying to answer them I think I've found I only want to do that via drawings. All the categorisation in biology I think is why I get bored of reading about it so quick, and being visual-only allows for me to hide my ineptitude and be more suggestive. I'll use these questions as prompts when I next get the itch to draw more gegeckers!

I was imagining they'd have a frog-ish feel, but would react to pets with octopus-like papillae that makes it less slimy and more scritchy.

And, Of course, use the gegeckers! The more chances I get to see them the better!

And yeah, humans for intended scale (though I would love to see one big enough to level a city):

I don't do much creature design. Still trying to iron out various tweaks in their design that I keep changing. Are you immediately wanting to pet any, or what would need to change for that to happen? My main goal is mushroom-cuttlefish vibes in a friendshape.

I also want to define their biology a bit more, but I don't have much technical knowledge about that stuff. Generally, I imagine their heads are mostly lungs and they tweet like a bird and parrot some sounds. They can hold a note for a painfully long time. They can fit their head and arms into really small spaces as there is little bone in there. And they can temporarily make their heads textured/coloured to look like other things to a degree. They have 5 face tendrils, the centre is the strongest for grappling/holding, the off-centre two are a bit weaker and thinner, used for manipulating, and there are two sensitive ones almost always tucked back and away, used for feeling/sensing details of things they pick up. They often sit/stand on their hind legs like meerkats and prairie dogs because their arms are super weak and their centre of mass is weirdly distributed.

These objects can make me feel a sense of dread when I think of them, for various reasons. Do you have anything you feel haunts you, that would you put in the picture?

Thanks! Sounds like it's just your personal preference but feel free to let me know if there is something I've done specifically that makes mobile viewing undesirable.

I did try to make it accessible on various screensizes with short segments but I'm sure I could probably make it more approachable. I expect more people might view it as a video but I've struggled to get my performance as intended - maybe I'll try that again soon.

About 1.5-2 hours of reading if you like that kind of thing - or just skim the pics if you like.

I read Beowulf and thought I could do better. I guess I probably didn't but I gave it a shot and I'm pretty proud of a few things in there. I'd like to record it in a sing-songy way someday...

No harm, I didn't mean to ask for your apology. You didn't do anything wrong and thankyou for making sure people don't fetishize mental illness. I consider all your comments respectful.

Having thought on it I do think my drawing is probably too direct about it for something lacking a context I haven't added. I think I should have waited until I made some more associated writings so that the nuance in my mind about the topic would have carried across better. Sorry for any distress.

Cable management is the first one I did put of this set! Got through a big migraine just before I started drawing these. I'll keep my thoughts about quintessence a secret, people seem to like the mystery of it.

I'm sorry to hear that. You have my sympathies.

This is inspired by disco Elysium which uses things like drug addiction in positive and negative ways. None of the skills are intended as purely positive or negative, I just use that name because that game had also. I think there are things people suffer from that can make them uniquely better equipped for enduring some circumstances that they fight daily that many people couldn't handle (not that it is a positive aspect in majority).

And not that it matters to me, but the only reason I felt comfortable including it is because it is part of my life and I have been bullied for it. Yes, if I had cancer I might also put that in as a skill too.

Thanks. A few are on the chopping block to be replaced but none of the ones you mentioned.

🔝🥀⌨️🔍choices of someone who has the compulsion to know what is going on, I suspect.

Thanks. Were that other comment made to me last year it would have decimated my self-esteem and willingness to share, but your comment might have salvaged it a little. Luckily at this time I'm in the mode where only a normal person amount of fucks are given.

Oh sorry. I know it's not the most polished it could be but thought zooming would be sufficient. I'm not really good with colour also.

No regrets on the font though. Iosevka monospace always.

You can pick one skill from each row, and they can't be from the same column.

Thanks! I've always liked narrative paintings and wanted it to be dissectable, each one puts me in a narrative setting of a story I made (or have yet to make) so cross-referencing should mean the meaning isn't completely obscured, hopefully. And I did struggle a lot with getting that facial expression the way I wanted good to hear it works!

I actually made some little animations with blender grease pencil a while ago, love it a lot but animation's hard. Made my own 2d cloth simulated extension for the parachute one.

I've also taken to importing my Inkscape drawings in and adding little animations bits too sometimes.

Do you use grease pencil for static images or animation much? What kinds of things do you do in Inkscape?
