Psychopathy. Movies, sensational articles, pop-culture, etc. give a completely distorted view of the disorder and its place in the world.

  • There are primary and secondary psychopaths. Primary being that it is genetic, secondary that is developed. So yes, in a way you can be born "evil" (of course the problem is that some definitions of evil don't make sense).
  • We don't want to judge people for things they can't change about themselves. Well here you have somebody who has about zero empathy, no feelings of guilt, remorse, or shame, by definition, and they were born that way (as primary psychopath). The emotional palette is pretty bleak.
  • To add more relevance, this along with other Dark Triad traits is very prevalent in the most powerful people.
  • There is progress, but no real standardised lasting treatment yet, though there are cases like this: https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/is-it-possible-to-treat-psychopathy-before-it-starts/?rdt_cid=5647051055037794503
  • Psychopathy isn't in any manual to be diagnosed with. Instead people get diagnosed with AsPD (Antisocial personality disorder). 2/3 of AsPD don't qualify as Psychopaths. There is interesting history about why this is. It's willful.
  • The Hare checklist is an acceptable way to test for signs of psychopathy. But he specifically said it should not be used to justify the death penalty, which they do anyway. People sue about it, but they don't even get heard.

For someone who knows about nothing about psychopaths and hasn't interacted with one, it is literally unfathomable how cruel they can be without blinking an eye. Which is why it's so important for psychologists etc. to have a file of facts about them, at the least, to figure out what's true and what not, as they generally don't care about lying or manipulating people for their own gain and have had to do that most of their lives.

So yeah, take a fucked up justice system, shitty social cohesion and declining resources in health and the disorder causes so much trouble for everyone. Sensationalism only makes it worse.

Hey, Somebody replied to a deleted thread I created with a great article by the guardian. I believe it was about setting the Balfour Declaration as the starting point and all the horrors that followed. Persecution of Palestinians and complicity by the UK, yet completely different framing by zionists. The article was published 25 years or months ago.

If anyone knows which article it is, please share.

Thank you :)

I feel I should I comment on the title a bit. It's a genocide. And the 'Our Genocide' part is not a representation of Israeli sentiment, nor what the interviews showed, but a report of a specific group. The last part becomes clear in the video though.

I've talked about a very specific thing in your post, and now you talk about something else about which I didn't mention a word. I'm going to return to the wisdom of not arguing with idiots and block you.

Your reply to someone mentioning someone 'dating' a 17-year old is "let's not pretend you're not gonna bang a hot young girl". WOW. Even if you're gonna be pedantic and say you meant young women yourself, not underage. It's fucking disturbing, to say the least, especially in this context, and you don't know the other person. So it just sounds like dumb projection.

Zionists are actually antisemitic. Calling people who criticize Israel for its genocide and apartheid antisemitic implies that it's a jewish thing to commit genocide and apartheid, which is incredibly hateful.

Also this isn't just about the israeli goverment. The protests you see are about the hostages, not about the inhumanity. Protests for solidarity with palestine are banned. There are recent polls that showed ~75% of israelis think "there are no innocent palestinians". The beaches and restaurants are buzzing over there. It's really not that hard to see from just about any angle, how most israelis don't give a shit at all.

More importantly it's for-profit capitalist crap? With ethical and moral considerations, there is no reason to push this when there are alternatives with much better starting blocks.

Hi, I would like to look for an instance primarily based on which other instances it doesn't federate with/block or whatever the term is. But clicking on the URL of a few instances, I can't find this information anywhere.

Thanks for any and all help.

Some bullshit dystopian predictions about the future that I guess held some weight(?) and how to come out on top yourself, as a "sovereign individual". It's apparently extremely influential among tech bros and co. Adam Curtis also mentioned/explained it and the role it played in shit like brexit (I think), in his last documentary "Shifty".

Disclaimer: political action is no substitute for therapy. Just like intense love is no replacement for therapy. Keep in mind this is lemmy shitpost and not mental healthy advice. 🚑 💚

Comical. Psypost also published this last week:

"New psychology research finds leftist causes widely seen as more moral — even by conservatives"

It's nice, and good to see more of a push. However, I think kill switches for at least microphone and camera should be the new default. It's absolutely ridiculous to walk around with an internet connected mic and a camera that looks at your face whenever you look at your phone. Personally, I'll never carry a phone around anymore that doesn't have mics and cameras desoldered or there's a kill switch. For the back camera a cover with a slide is fine, but doesn't really work with the front part.
