This is so true. It costs more money for the server power required for something like that to be pulled off.

There's a comment in this thread going all crazy complaining about it being costly to host anything on the protocol to stop Bluesky from dominating it and everything. But im like "uhh yeah, servers and storage costs money".

It's just so weird how everyone thinks hosting popular sites should be free.

Same here. This seems valuable for anyone who would want Lemmy to be a first-class RSS reader. But I prefer to just use my RSS reader and add feeds to that.

I use a combination of RSS feeds provided by Lemmy and the ones provided by openrss.org, which has most if not all news sites nytimes, bbc, etc.

Genuine question: how do we actually "kill the big fish" though? Majority are going to continue to use big tech out of convenience and because they dont care much.

There is if you want RSS feeds for things like Lemmy search. And if you want the links in feed items to be associated with a single instance. AFAIK, regular Lemmy feeds dont provide that. But ofc people can use Lemmy feeds if they want.

Looked around and it's impressive they were able to replicate so much functionality! It doesnt seem to federate with other fedi platforms, though. At least it doesnt with Lemmy.

We use them at my company. I love how new engineers can't just come into our codebase and start doing huge refactors. ADRs kind of force them to explain their rationale. We also use them to upvote on whether an architectural change should be implemented or not.
