The issue, and my point, is that you're defending a technicality that doesn't matter in real world usage. Nearly no one uses non-corporate, ethical AI. Most organizations working with it aren't starting from scratch because it's disadvantageous or outright unfeasible resourcewise. Instead, they use pre-existing corporate models.

Edd may not be technically right, but he is practically right. The people he's referring to are extremely unlikely to be using or creating completely ethical datasets/AI.

I'd like to add for the sake of context: it seems the "good" part is contested. I assume you're talking about the OSI definition. The training data is disclosed, yes, but many would have preferred that e.g. all of it had to be released or publically available.

In theory, I doubt development would continue. For a federated cohost to survive long term, it would also need to be open source, with a developer community that could fork the project and carry the torch. That's a very different cohost we're envisioning, even excluding required UX changes to make it possible.

At that point, one might as well imagine a cohost that explored better ways to make money, or attracted more users, or ran a tighter ship. Both scenarios lead to this discussion never happening.
